I once built an 87 Sammy with a 1.6 so I am not new to the Suzuki world, but a Chevy Tracker...? What is it really?
I picked up a nice 2000 Tracker with 2.0. VIN says it was made in Canada but so was my Toyota. Is my Chevy Tracker the same as a 'Zooki?
The little truck is nice and the 235/17 tires rub more than Peewee Herman in a movie theater. I will also need some gears but here are my questions:
This baby is an automatic. That's right, and A/C too. Will the xfer case gear kits available work with an auto shifter?
Will the Rockey Road 2" body lift clear the 235/17 tires?
What else should I do to it to build a tasteful rig?
Any help or input woul be great!

Love the rims!! The first thing you need is my 2" coil/strut spacer lift to help clear the tires. ;)

That is indeed a possibility. I would like to smooth out the ride too. Has anyone used your kit with OME springs?
-
Yes, although the spacers and the OME springs will give it too much lift for the CV's to handle. Some guys have used OME springs and 1" in front and 1.5" spacers in rear.
-
Oh. I thought I could get OME stock legnth springs....
Know anything about auto trannys? Is the xfer case the same as manual?
-
Very nice looking Tracker. Calmini's transfer case gears state they all manual non-V6 transfer cases... so it appears they wouldn't work on yours and their site indicates their gears are currently not available anyway. http://www.puresuzuki.com/rockcrawler2.htm (http://www.puresuzuki.com/rockcrawler2.htm)
OME springs will give you (according to their info) about 1.5" of lift. I had a set on one of my trucks and they lifted it the same as Jeff's coil spacer lift did on another one of my trucks which is right at 2 ".
A little bit of rub at full lock is normal with 235 series tires and larger. Big side wall lugs increase the rumble when you turn tightly. Those rims appear to be aftermarket rims and are probably 7" wide or better. They will increase the amount of rub you experience as well.

Thanks for the input. I notice TrailTough has a gear set but I will have to wait until Mon to talk to Brant.
How did you like the the OME springs as a straight swap? Did it improve the ride? Which ones did you get, medium?
As for my tires/wheels, I wonder if 2" or even 2.5" of lift would actually lessen the rub. I bought it like this so I am not sure of the backspacing..

The OME springs totally changed the ride. They were very nice... even though I didn't run their struts and shocks. I sold my Tracker with the OME springs on it but I do intend to outfit Buster (my Tracker) with a full OME suspension this summer. The ride was just too damned nice. I know I could soften my current ride by running less air in my tires... but that's just the way i roll!! I had MEDIUM springs in the front. I have a #35-40 brush guard on the front of my truck now but i think I will still go with the medium springs.
Oh yeah, and even though it is a Tracker, if you pop the hood you're gonna see the word "Suzuki" on an awful lot of parts, like the air cleaner box for starters.
-
Do you have a link with a pic of your brush guard?
-
Link is in the search engine.

Thanks. Yeah.....no offense but the search engine on this site is crap. In my search I did however find the black plastic reconditioner you recommended. That will come in handy as my bumpers are greyed out..
-
I have decided to name it "Moonfish".
-
Oh yeah... "Forever Black", thanks for bringing that up! I put that on my fenders back in the fall of '07 (as I recall) and it is just now starting to fade and needs another application this spring (2011). So guys and gals although it says "forever black"... apparently isn't. However, it did last me a full 3 years and I can get two full applications from one bottle so I still consider it a very good product. It outlasts the others by far. The other option would be to simply spray paint the bumper covers a flat black with a rattle can. I know some dealers actually do this. I suppose the results would last as well and it would also be an easy touch-up.
-
I considered trying Krylon Fusion paint. I think they make a satin Black. I will swear by Fusion paint as it sticks to dirt bike plasics and coats like a factory finish. And it withstands flexing too.
-
True. Another nice feature Forever Black would have over rattle cans is you don't have to mask off all your truck body to apply it and you can easily wipe excess off the paint. When you start darkening your side vinyl, door handles and mirrors masking would be come more of a chore for spray paint. Not a big deal, but a consideration.
-
Wow. How difficult is it to just remove the bumper covers? I have not really crawled under there yet....
-
Bumper covers aren't difficult to remove. As I recall there are a bolt and screw inside each fender and a couple of the plastic locks under the bumper that you pop out. You remove the plastic locks by either depressing the centers or screwing them out. Depends if they have been replaced by a PO. The one screw in the fender is almost straight upwards. Might be a couple screws underneath as well. Been a few months... but they come off really easy. You just have to ensure your find all those plastic locks and small screws. Same with the back. There are the plastic locks that you can see when you open the rear door, then the bolts and screws holding the cover on the bottom sides. When you lay on your back under the truck you should be able to catch all the plastic locks and screws.

Ok. My list of mods, tasks, and purchases is growing. But first I go to DMV today to see how CA is going to rape me for an out of state title transfer.... I brought my own Vaseline...
