Title: Picked up a 96 X-90. Have a few Questions
Post by: 1996 X-90 on February 05, 2011, 03:21:53 PM
Hey guys. today I picked up a 96 X-90 4x4 5 speed for $750 USD. It only has 130k miles and had a new timing belt at 112k (have receipt). The guy sold it cheap becuase it's been sitting for years and He knows it needs alignment and 4 tires.

Let me list the issues and Help me fix them

Cracked Windshield (Is a windshield outfit going to have this windshield since car is so rare?)
Rear window Defog does not work
There's more issues like rusted muffler and Tail piping and 6 CD Changer won't open....but i think i have those figured out.

Oh, and I found a great deal on a set of 205/70R15 tires so I'm getting them. They should fit and look nice, hopefully they'll fit. It has 215/60's on it now .

My plan is to drive this car through winter since 4x4 works so good and Then sell it in springtime and make money back.

Also, It says on the doors it's an "Elite".....I'm assuming this is becaue it is factory Black on Black?

Thanks for any help. I'll post pics tomorrow..

Thanks
Brandon

Love our X90. It is a converted 2WD to 4and a Volvo automatic . We drive it all year round. Nice cold AC and T-Tops for the summer and 4x4  for the winter with awesome heat. Good luck with it. 205s are smaller than 215s so will fit no problem. Jim

Look closer - 205/70R15 are 26.3", 215/60R15 are 25.16 - the 205s are over an inch larger

You are just going to have to call some glass places and see if they have a windshield.
The "elite" is probably just a sticker that someone put on.  I've never heard of an "elite" package on an x90.  Kinda like putting a "turbo" sticker on....doesn't mean it has a turbo. :P ;)
Stock tires for an x90 are like 195/something (there should be a sticker on the drivers door jamb that says the exact size).  It might be kinda "doggy" with 205/70 tires, because all x90s have 4.62 diff gears.  But I think they should fit fine.

Sorry. I missed the 60. Jim

Thanks guys. I took some pics. i was making fun of it because I could fit 2 of them on my car trailer. And my truck didn't know it was back there when i was pulling it.

Pretty clean car. Needs a good buffing/Wax and interior stinks of oldness.

It has the loudest stereo in it though, ever. I love it.

Wow, thief is right!  Great pick-up for $750, if your intentions are to sell it, you won't have any problems making your money back.  But once you get driving it, you'll probably catch the bug and keep it.  Especially if you follow this forum!

Yea I know i got a good deal but she does need some work.

I got a windshield getting installed on friday for $175

And I need a new Headpipe. It is rusted through right before the catalytic converter BEFORE the flange, so I think I'll replace the whole headpipe. The cat is cheap enough I may do it too while under there. the Cat back is in good shape so I'll leave it. I don't want that ricey sound, Rather keep it quiet and sleeperish.

MUHAHAH.

so I've been driving this thing the last week, I had brand new tires put on for a GREAT deal because they've been sitting in the guys shop for like 2 years. I got a new windshield installed for $160 because old one was cracked. I also added some nitromethane to the 1st tank of gas because the gas that was in it was old and it was spark knocking. immediately the spark knock went away.....

OH, and i buffed and waxed the whole car! looks amazing. I''ll put soem pics up later.

What gears do these things have??!?!? at 60 mph I'm running like 3000 rpm in 5th gear...it's insane. I can't imagine 70 . If it'll even do it.

My 98 frequently cruised down the interstate at 80+mph. These motors are made to wind out.

Most trackicks will "cruise" at about 3600-3800RPM at 70MPH.
All x90s had 4.62 axle gears.
