I was coming up the driveway when the check engine light came on my 92 sami with stock 1.3 and fuel injection and the engine died. I started it right back up fine no light on but as soon as I start to let out the clutch even in neutral the light comes on and the engine dies. ??? It starts up and runs fine as long as the clutch pedal is on the floor but let it up the least bit and it starts to die. Any Ideas???? Thanks c

hmmm.
only signal i can think of re:clutch pedal is that switch that makes you have to depress the pedal operate the starter.
i can't see why it would make any difference, but mabe disconnect and see what happens?
you'd have to jump those wires to start(i leave it jumped on mine- so i try not to have it in gear yada yada).
if it works, it'll mabe mean something in that circuit, but it seems odd.
good head scratcher!

I am going to try that tomorrow but From what I can see on the wiring diagram that should have nothing to do with it. It almost seems that it doesn't do it till the clutch pedal is past half way up. I have noticed on mine sami and another that when you let the clutch out with the transmission in neutral the RPMs drop but I assumed that was just from the main shaft of the tranny turning in all that lube. I can hold down the clutch and hold the gas anywhere in the RPM range and it runs fine till I let the clutch out then the check engine lite starts flickering and it dies. I just don't get it ;D

Clutch pedal is shorting a wire out? Have you looked for any wires that are either bare or pinched in the clutch pedal area?
Have you tried pulling codes to see what error code the CEL is indicating?

How about a good engine ground? if it's missing it might be grounding thru the clutch
cable, and when you let up the ground gets interrupted, and the engine quits because
of no ground no spark or ???
Check your ground cable to the body and the block, you need both

You hit it on the head Wild, loose frame ground causing it to ground thru the clutch cable. ::) point given. Thanks to you and everyone else for the help c
