i have heard of people using a DOHC 16v suzuki swift head on their sidekicks. will it only fit on the SOHC 16v 1.6 or will it fit on a SOHC 8v 1.6 engine too?
-
Now that's an intriguing idea. I hope you get an answer!

Brent Bradshaw from Trail Tough has done work in this area. His project "Stump Jumper" which can be viewed on TruckWorld online had a hopped up 1.3 twin cam engine in it for quite a while. I believe that towards the end of the project's life it had a 1.6 8-valve bottom end. There is a swift GT site that has a few tech pointers on how to do this. It seems quite easy. The timing belt is the only thing that may need shopping around. Also, the piston needs 4 valve relief. Maybe the 16-valve bottom end instead of custom pistons?
Please let us know how it works out if you decide to go forward. This is a hop up that I'm very interested in.
Good Luck, Eric

Anyone done this before?

its been done. I found a link with all the info on the swap but can't find it now. I think they used a timing belt off an Acura, or Honda 1.6 DOHC?
Here is another link for it though.

When he brought that up here for the butt-stomper it blew me away. I never thought I'd enjoy watching a samurai go through a mud hole.

There is a website called www.ssgti.com. They specialize in modding the Swift GT and GTi(89 only). One thing they do is use the twin cam 1.3 head on a 1.6 short block. The twin cam 1.3 puts out about 100 horse, the single cam 1.6 16 valve puts out about 95 horse, but with more torque. The combination puts out between 120 and 130 with big torque.
HMMMMM.......me thinks that I'm gonna have to put me together a twin cam, 16 valve, 1.6, carburated....dual Webers?? hehe, gonna have to play with that theory!!
I'll let you know what happens. 8)
It otta go very well with the power steering, dual cases, rear locker, 5.12s, and 35s on my long wheelbase sammy! ;D

idaholwb, thanks for the link, some real good info. What does one do about the distributor? Doesn't it come straight out the back of the swift head?

He doesn't have the body on his rig, so it wouldn't matter
*grin*

These guys do an angle drive for the distributor for this engine swap.

they swapped the dist. cap and rotor with one from a 323 GTX. maybe it would be short enough for the Sami like this?
