Title: One Headlight is Dimmer

I have an '87 Sammy JX and one of my headlights has gone dimmer than the other! Any thoughts on what could be causing this.

head light going out , bad ground ,

Yep.
Also check both headlight fuses to make sure they are both good.
I know on trackicks if one fuse is burnt out, both headlights still work, but one is dimmer than the other.  I can't remember if samurais are the same way or not.
