Post by: chocolatemilk on March 02, 2011, 12:34:55 PM
I just bought a 87 samurai and it started stalling on me. I replaced fuel filter and it runs better but it still stutters. Any ideas please help. Thank you

I got a 86 and 88.  The 88 was doing the same thing. If you still got the stock carb there are vent tubes on the drivers side of the carb under the breather.  Make sure they are hooked up.  Hope that helps you if not check all the vac hoses.  also check the sparkplugs and the wires.  If I think of any thing else will let you know.

Are you seeing the issue all of the time or just during specific operations, like cruising down the highway or once the car warms up?

Are you running the stock fuel pump or an electric one?  You might have a fuel delivery issue with either to much or not enough pressure.  It might also just need to be adjusted.

The guy I got it from said it was a new fuel pump. Can I use an electric fuel pump from a sidekick. I have one but I didn't know if it was to much pressure for the carb.

you want 3-5 psi.   Fuel injection pump are 40+  Float level? never had a weber but i assume it has a float? hows your timing?

He said that the carb is pretty new I don't really know how to adjust the float or the carb air fuel mix. And I lost my timing gun so I can't check that yet.

If you are using the stock pump then you will want to put a fuel regulator in between the pump and the carb.  I believe the Webbers run about 2 lb's.

I pluged my vacuum line and it ran better. then i changed my booster and it wanted to stall when i pumped the breaks. put my old booster back on and the breaks were better. i took it around the block and the breaks word but now it running bad again. i think the vacuum system is wrong but i dont have a diagram to look at to fix it.

Me and my father both have samurais both 88 we had some problems with stutter but he ordered us each a vent tube and they seem to be running fine ever since http://www.zukioffroad.com/Tech_Library/vent_tube.htm (http://www.zukioffroad.com/Tech_Library/vent_tube.htm)
