How detrimental is it if I dont put a catalytic converter on my exhaust when i don the swap? The donor is from a 98 tracker

true dat....anyone got any easy to do tips for making it so my hood will close...im about an inch short of being able to shut it.

I guess you are putting this in a samurai? If so, use different motor mounts.

Yea its a sammy....what motor mounts would you use? the ones from the donor look like they are the same size

The 1.3 and 1.6 mounts are similar, but not exactly the same. On a 1.6 swap I am working on, I used the samurai engine block mount, a dodge 318 rubber mount (anchor 2265) and the samurai frame mount on the drivers side. On the passengers side, I used the 1.6 engine block mount, a dodge 318 rubber car mount (anchor 2266) and the samurai frame mount. This setup compensates for the taller engine (makes it so the hood will close) and the off set passengers side mount (the dodge mount is ran sideways). It also levels the engine.

Do you have a lift on your samurai? If not, you have to modify the samurai oil pickup tube, so you can use the samurai oil pan for clearance.

A 98 will be OBDII. It will have 2 O2 sensors. One before and 1 after the cat. If you do not run a cat, the after sensor will give false readings to the computer and possibly make it run badly.

It seems to run fine with no cat....I am topping out at like 60mph running 32" tires...that sound normal?

That seems a bit slow, but you might need to re-gear for that size tire

I did the same swap. As far as motor mounts I used Petro Works motor mounts and adapter plate. I had no issue with hood closing.
I'm also running a 3.5" SR lift so I didn't have to modify 1.6l 16v oil pan.

the first time we did a 16v swap the instructions from trail tough said it might be necessary to put a spacer under the ft body mounts (by radiator) for hood clearance .we did & it worked great. if you somehow lower the engine with mounts the exaust manifold could have clearance issues

I had no issue with exhaust manifold clearance. It isn't stock and it is close, but no issues. I'll try to get some picts posted. It will be late next week before I get time.

I have plenty of lift...it must be a matter of the mounts.....Im chopping a hole in the hood and putting a scoop on it. As far as the top speed it does have lower gearing but i forget what seeing as it was like that when i bought it.

on the 1st 16v swap we had no issues at all but one of the swaps we did the manifold was really close to the frame where the flange was we used a 1/4" thick spacer under the motor mt to get clearance I would guess there are some differences in the stock manifolds which may have caused this or a "flaw " in the frame :o

60 does seem pretty slow. I only have 30" tires but i hit 90 before i ran out of gearing. It will cruze all day at 75 though.
