Title: Tracker Rear door
Post by: proughj on March 05, 2011, 03:32:58 PM
Ok so I pecked up a 90 tracker, I found that there is no lock for the rear door/trunk, is there something im missing? can I just change the rear door with one that has a lock and just re pin the lock cylinder, or is there something on the body that im going to need to get as well? also is a 4 door and 2 door rear trunk/door different?

mine-
1990
2 door
softtop
geo tracker

thanks

The rear door should have a lock.  I even installed an electric lock's on my 96.  Does it not have a lock cylinder?  You can grab a door from any 2 door up through 98, you will just have to mount the appropriate mounting hardware.

I realize some think it is silly to lock a door that has a zipper directly above it, but nobody has broken into my Tracker yet.  Just keeping the honest people honest.

Weird.  Well, the doors are compatible between all the two doors, they just have different mounting hardware for the soft top.  I would find a rear door the right color and swap it on.

That is odd.  I don't think I've ever seen one without a lock.  Got a pic?  I'd like to see it (not that there is anything to "see" :P).
As suggested, just get a tailgate from any 89-98 trackick, they should all interchange.

Yup. My 90 tintop has a lock. My 90 convertible has NO lock. But my 95 convertible does have a lock. So somewhere along the line it was added but initially wasn't available on the early models.
And you can't swap a 4door/2door tiptop rear door to/from a soft top rig because the upper hinge is mounted completely different.

I know they didn't "add" the lock at some point and that it wasn't available on the early models...because I had an 89 with the lock, and I am pretty sure every other early model trackick I have has the lock (90s, 91s, etc....I don't think I currently have an 89).  Now, it may have been an option to either add or delete it on some models.
Of course a TT rear door won't fit a convertible....I was talking about convertible tailgates.

I really don't think rear door locks fall into the category of "dealer options".

I have had a 90 Sidekick conv, a 91 Tracker conv, and a 97 4 door.  All my trackers had a rear lock and the Sidekick didn't have the lock.  Wonder if the difference is between the sidekick and the tracker model, at least for the early years????
