Post by: joshembry on March 07, 2011, 09:09:46 PM
Im looking for a poll type answer....with specifics....not guesses. So if you have added bigger tires please use a GPS or something to determine your speed. Speed also figured on flat ground, and a max time of 1 minute. Please list in the following format

Year/Vehicle: 1988 Samurai
Engine: 1.6l, 16v
Tire Size: 32"
Gearing: unknown
MAX Speed: 60mph

just curious as to where everyone else is sitting with their rides

The lift will definately affect the speed. Wind drag. There's a reason that race cars are low to the ground.

MAX Speed: 100mph at about 3/4 throttle, plenty of gusto left, but it's a brick, so...?
0-60mph: 8.0 seconds.  The automatic transmission could use a lot of firming-up.

I started to worry about losing the soft-top and haven't tried with the hard-top or topless.

At 90 it is just feeling good, another tick on the throttle and it just jumps to 100 on GPS.  No idea what top speed is, but it can get to 100 a hurry, and with the mufflers I have everyone in area knows.

stock 86 Sami with Super Swampers and 50 mph is as fast as I go. Never on interstate, only 4 lane HWY. Prefer just around town but will hit a 4 lane if I need to.....

I know a guy with a 92 with street tires and he says he goes 80+ on the interstate but NO THANKS!

Well, after reading all these posts I had to go for a drive...  got to 100 no problems, lots of throttle left but didn't feel like a ticket and didn't have my fuzz buster so i calmed down after that.  I was surprised by how solid it felt at that speed, got pretty loud and I forgot to look at the tach.  I drive from Dallas to Portland everyday at 80 no problems but I am turning 3600 at that speed with the low axle gears, I think I want to try 4.88's next.

1993 4 door sidekick
4.0 liter v6 out of a 2007 FJ, 6 speed manual, 2 toyota transfer cases
315-75r16 (35x12.5) KM2's
5.71 gears in toyota axles

My 0-60 time is pretty lame because of all the shifting that has to happen, I think 60 can happen in 3rd.  I heard there is an app I can get for my wife's iPhone that will record 0 - 60 times and G's and some other things, if I can find that I'll post up the times.

It's all reletive, fast for a Sammy or Trackick is kinda run of the mill Jap econobox power, compared just about anything else this side of a Prius running on pure electric.  ;D

It really was pretty stable. Flat strech of higway with no traffic. I didn't ever attempt it again though. Probably took 5 years of life off the engine.

As per the gps, 65mph unless I can find a nice hill or tailwind. Speedo reads about 90 mph at that speed, not sure why, but it was probably not born that way. 88 1.3, to which I added a Weber and a new cam belt.
