i have an auto trans and i dont know if its a 3 or 4 speed. can someone tell me how to tell

3 speed is made by GM and says so on the side

Did it come out of a 2 door or 4 door?
2 door=3 speed.
4 door=4 speed (except for the 91 4 door, but the chances of it being from one of those is pretty rare).

it came out of a 2 door. thanks for the help. now the conversion should be pretty easy
