Ive got a 99 tracker 2.0 4spd auto its had a new timing chain not too long ago. it starts up normally but sometimes I have to step on the gas while cranking & let off as soon as it starts. it seems to rev fine w/no load until you put a load on it if you step on the gas it bogs if you let up it will slowly accelerate if you pull it into low it goes better I have replaced the fuel filter replaced the catalitic converter with a test pipe I checked fuel pressure and its 35 psi at idle I went for a drive withe the fuel pressure gauge visable and when it was doing the bogging thing the fuel pressure was up to 40 when it started hard with the guage on it was 35-40 I was going to replace the fuel pump put it seems to have fuel pressure within the specs as far as i can tell any ideas ???
also no service engine soon light

Did you check the air filter? I had this issue with a friends truck,
filter was so bad the engine could to breathe (diesel)

Tell us more about the timing chain replacement. Was it routine maintenance? Or did it fail? Has the rig ran fine after the work or been a problem since reassembled?....did you get the superseded timing block (little plastic piece between cams) or just a parts house timing chain in 'er?
Sounds timing related or maybe fuel pressure regulator is tits up.

the filter was replaced & the regulator acording to some test procedure is working and Ive tried it w/o a air filter (no different)
the timing chain failed before i got the car broke for cheep so i replaced a couple bent valves and the chain kit (online china deal ) head gasket & bolts.
it has good compression it did run pretty good after this repair(but not right my buddy says his is a great engine) Im going to try to time the carw/the right tools I dont think I ever set the timing other that to put it back together from marks I put on things before dissasembly because I see the procedure for setting the timing requires a obdII scan tool & I dont have one yet Ill let you guys know if i ever get it figured out I had assumed it was a fuel pump I had another older tracker&that was the problem with it & it acted like this

It's a long shot, but it could be low flowing injectors, I would install
a Mixture Meter to see if it's running lean before pulling and changing
the injectors, or you could pull them and have them checked for flow.
You can do this yourself if you want to rig up a way to trigger the injectors
and measure the flow rate, also check the spray pattern, should be a good
cone spray, no flat spots on one side or squirting like a fire hose
Just a thought

Check the Air flow meter and throttle pos sensors. sounds like maf meter is not working.
-
Sounds like you need to start with a engine scan if the check engine light is on
-
no check engine light is on i scanned it & no codes I think its a combination of the timing being off & the trans cable not being adjusted .
ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO SET THE TIMING WITH OUT A FANCIER SCAN TOO THAN I ALREADY GOT ?

that looks like good info but but I may need more to decipher that .... is what it says basically(for testing w/out a scan tool) to ground the test switch terminal where the plug in for the code reader Is ?if so what pin number(s) would that be? the help is apeciated
