Title: Oil pan
Post by: blaster716 on March 21, 2011, 03:12:35 AM
Can I use the oil pan from my 1.3 on my 1.6 8v motor?

I believe it can be done - but needs some modifications - I think the oil pickup tubes are different.

You also really should specify which 1.6 & 1.3 motor you're referring to - I'm assuming a 1.3 from a Samurai and a 1.6 from a SideKick - there are other versions of both of these motors that were used in other cars (for example both 1.3 & 1.6 engines were used in Swifts & Balenos) and can be transplanted, but would have had different oilpans and pickup tubes.

You are correct , the 1.3 is out of a samurai , and the 1.6 ( 8v) is from a tracker . can i use the pickup tube from the 1.3 on the 1.6 motor as well so that it will be in the right spot in the pan ?

No.  The size of the pickup tube, where it goes into the block, is different sized between the 1.3 and 1.6.  So in order to use a 1.3 pan on a 1.6, you have to cut both tubes in two and splice (weld) them together to make a "bastard" tube.  When you do this, you also have to cut some of the baffles out of the samurai oil pan, because of the way the 1.6 tube is shaped, it hits the baffles.  Also, the backside of the samurai oil pan has to be flattened a little, in order to clear the bearing cap girdles and the rear main cap.

I have read where you can buy a bastard oil tube from a vendor (don't remember which one(s)).  Not sure on the oil pan....all it is is a stock pan with the baffles removed.  And you actually don't have to flatten the backside of it, like I previously posted...at least, I didn't have to, when I did this yesterday....I just ended up barely grinding the backside of the girdle and bolt washers to clear the pan (didn't take much...not even 3/32" of grinding).
