Title: How do women fell about your zuk?
Post by: tracker8wr on May 28, 2004, 04:15:05 PM
I am the wife of an off road adventurer, and I love it.  I just wanted to know if your wives b|removethispart|@^#$ about money spent, ect. or if they are cool with it.  I am definately not my husband's biggest fan, though, our 3 yr old daughter already wants a big zuk when she grows up (but she told us that she wanted bigger tires than her daddy-  talk about proud!)

Ã‚  About 3 years ago, I promised my husband I'd go off roading with him "occasionally" :(, just because I loved him. :-*  Now, I have my own Zuk and can't talk him into going often enough!

We have another couple we go riding with.  She bought her Zuk new in '88, with him telling her she was crazy to spend money on one of those.  He finally bought his own a couple of weeks ago, after years of "borrowing" hers to go play in.

::) I get the looks all the time from the better half. When I start going off about lifts and trails and such, she rolls her eyes!! When I start talking about $1000 this and $2000 that she gets worried (we're newlyweds 1st anniversary in Aug) because we're just starting off. I figure when we get the 'ol second putt-putt to cruise in, turning the Zuke into a off-road monster won't be a big deal... or so she says!

steveo

p.s. my wife's a crazier off-roader than me! First day out, both struts BAMM!!

Wy Girlfriend didn't like it when I was putting on my body-lift, she said higher was ugly but now I have it on and the new tires she even likes it  ;D, went wheeling with her for the first time sunday a few weeks ago. And she forgot to put her seatbelt on and was thrown all over the car.... she was mad but then she didn't want to go back in if I was doing something not straigt, but she could take pictures then  ;D. I think she will like it after we went a few more times together, we'll be going on a weekend in a few weeks so that's good  ;)

my wife hates it. Complains about every minute I spend on it, even if she is not home. Curses every dollar (that she knows about) that I spend on it. Gives me a guilt trip every time I take it out to the point that while I am wheeling I am thinking about the crap I am gonna get when I get home (which zaps alot of the fun of wheeling). I just got a trailer cheap from a friend to haul it, and used a savings bond I got from my grandfather before we met (so its not even "our" money) and it cost me a trip to Disney World this fall (which is fine, the kids will love it). She did say she liked my roll cage (thanks Rockrat!), that was a proud moment! She has been getting better though, I'll give her that, but I do envy you guys that have girls that are into it. I have three daughters, 12 year old is embarrased about it, 5 year old loves it so there is some hope I can get her involved some day and the 3 year old thinks its ugly and scary.

Well, the Tracker in my avatar IS my Wife's. She loves wheeling as much as I do. I am lucky enough to have just picked up a new tandem axle trailer that she bought for me for a b-day gift. The sammy is now going to be a buggy  and not going to bother registering it anymore. Would have had a ton of problems anyway here in Assachussetts in trying to reg. and inspect it.

my fiance loves it. she loves to go cruising around in it. she always wants to drive it. I let her drive it on the beach when we first got together and i told her "try to be easy on the gas, your in sand and this isnt the 4cyl." She gets in and hammers on the gas, sand flying everywhere, back-end trying to walk sideways, ect........ (that was the last time she drove it)

Well I have only off roaded once on a very light and easy trail and my girlfriend was with me.  She had a blast and can't wait to go again.  She does think that I spend a little more time with the Sidekick then I should, but she understands.  What pisses her off is that I'm always on Zukiworld!!  ;D :o

She's like, "Your're always on ZUKIworld..."

:-[ To my girlfriend vehicles of any type are just transportation to her. If it runs and gets you there, thats all that counts, she doesn't understand our love for vehicles being born in China they didn't have a car when she grew up,until they came to the states in 1979.

She likes my Tracker,we both call it the Boing, boing car cause it bounces so much. ::) ;D

My wife likes to ride in my Tracker but hates to drive it, says it's too tippy. My daughter doesn't care for cars in general, she's into horses, not horsepower. ;D

My wife loves wheeling, just hates the money that is involved in building the samurai. WE've had numerous discussions about it. See, I had an 84 Toyota, which I sold for $2200 and bought a 76 CJ-7 for $1700 cause we didn't want to put money into something that we couldn't haul a family in. Well, the Heep sat. We sold it for $2k. to help get our house. I have less than a grand into my samurai, and she still complains whenever I mention money and samurai in the same sentence! I had the Toy since before we were together, and gave it up for us. Now that I want another, she fusses. But, she just mentioned a vacation in august, something about an amusement park, only 1 hour after telling me we can't spend money on the sami for a while cause we don't have it...

Oh well, I just have to lay down the law once in a while! Say "you listen here >:(, this is how its gunna be!"  8)Then run and hide for a few weeks! ::) :-* 8)

Hi, I'm here to alienate everyone and p!ss them off.  I don't do it on purpose, but it always happens.  Just warnin' ya.   ;D

My wife can't b!tch about how much money I spend on my trucks because it isn't her money.  If I pay to put a roof over someone's head and food in their mouth and then they are going to complain about what I do with what's left, they can take a hike.

If you'd rather spend money on your truck than take your family to Disneyworld your priorities are messed up.  It never fails to amaze me when some guy comes on a BBS crying that his wife just asked for a divorce and he had no idea it was coming.  Well, if you didn't spend your whole life in your garage or on the trail ignoring your wife maybe you'd have some idea what she felt and thought about,  dumb|removethispart|@ss.

My wife likes to wheel with me, after I convinced her to do it the first time.  My kids (M3 and F6) both LOVE to ride in either of the "bouncy trucks."  They both fall asleep when we are on the trail though, go figure.

My wife recently confided that she likes the Trackick better as a wheeling rig than the Sami.  No mystery there, it's about 1000% more comfortable.  Though the Frankenkick isn't really built at all (just big tires), I have to say I agree with her.  About 90% of the pleasure comes from the removable roof in either case and the extra space and power in the bigger truck just make it that much nicer.  I wish I could magically transfer all the mods on the Sami over to the Tracker and then I could ditch one of the reg/insurance costs I currently have.  No spools or lockers in winter trucks around here, though.

I can tell the spousal unit does have some reservations, though.  She refuses to watch the video of zooky's roll on Beacon last fall because she's afraid it will prevent her from getting back in the Sami.  The same video convinced me to contact Rockrat before doing anything even a little serious trail-wise with my kids little melons bobbing around unprotected in the back.

Happy Memorial day,

Well I am sorry to those poor fools who do not know how to keep a woman, but my hubby just kept on asking me to go with him, asking me to help him fix what he broke, and i eventually learned to like it.  And as expensive as parts can get off-roading doesnt cost near as much as any other vacation, and we actually spend time together, not just doing "stuff."  Our daughter will be 4 this ifall, and she is right there under the zuk with my hubby.  She loves to go anywhere in it, and you had better be prepared for her to ask you to take off the top.

I think you misunderstood my Disneyworld comment, my priorities are the kids, I think its a good idea, its just the way she threw that in there when we were discussing buying a trailer. You would have had to hear the whole discussion with her to see where I was coming from.

I had to total up the amount spent for insurance purposes and I come to the amount of $9,500.00 and I'm shaving off for the parts not here yet.  ;)

My wife works, too, and that's why it works so well.  We use a very simple and completely fair system for this.

There are a specified and predictable amount of expenses every month for the family and house.  Mortgage, utility bills, food, etc.  We both pay these in equal proportion to our earnings.  In other words, If I make 4 times as much as my wife, the I pay 80% of the bills and she pays 20%.  Whatever is left over belongs to the person who earns it.  That way we each pay an equal percentage of our income to support the household.

It happens to work out that my share equals the mortgage plus all the groceries and a good chunk of the bills.  Since I have more money left over after the bills, I usually pay when we go out to eat or go someplace with an admission: I pay for the vacations to Disneyworld.  I also spend my own money on mutually beneficial things that are within my interests;  TV, stereo, computers, DVDs, camping trailer, GPS units, etc.  I couldn't care less about stuff like drapes and wallpaper and landscaping, so if my wife wants that stuff she can buy it herself with her own money.  I should also mention that I do my proportionate amount of child care, as well.  The way I see it her main "job" is child care and my main job is earning money.  That's the way it always "used to be", but modifying it so both people have discretionary income just makes it work more smoothly.

If my wife asks me how much a particular indulgent item I have purchased cost I tell her "It didn't cost you anything" , and I don't ask her how much she spent on a trellis and rosebushes.

I have absolutely no idea how I would be able to avoid killing my wife if I had to have every expenditure I made approved by her and vice-versa. It just seems like a guaranteed recipe for arguments and power struggles.

Randy..I knew what you were getting at with the Disneyworld thing, my comment wasn't directly aimed at you.

My wife loves it!!! She buys me new parts every time I break and even gives me cash to go wheeling with ;D Oh, wait, I dont have a wife :P

We have many families in our club and most of the wives love to camp and wheel. The main problem is they usually out drive their husbands when they work up the nerve to get behind the wheel ;)

My wife is pretty understanding. I mean, Zukin is a disease ya know ;D The only thing she has a problem with is my destructive nature. She says every time I head for the trails all she can see is Dollar signs. I understand her feelings now. This weekend I blew my tranny to pieces and busted the ragjoint in the steering shaft ::)

At least I have a set of Toyota axles with Sky Manufacturing Hi-Steer and brand new Allied Beadlocks sitting in the garage waiting to go under the popsicle ;D ;D

Well, my g/f helped me buy my Tracker a few years ago, well before I tried taking out in the woods. Now that I have been out running through the trees with it, she's just worried that I will kill it. She did buy me a winch for my birthday though... ;D

They seem to think it's OK, even the ones who have comments about big tires. ("Bigger the tires, smaller the anatomy" is one comment.) They make more sense than the low-rider 4x4's.

The usual 'Kick comments... "Cute car." "Makes you look like George Jetson." "Let's take *my* car." "That's OK, I used to drive a clunker, too." (The Kick is in excellent shape... the passenger door had squeaked.)

My current friend likes it... because it's the perfect rig for hauling the dogs & cruising to the beach.

Didnt direct that anyone in particular, it's just an observation after a few years reading zuk message boards.  A couple times a year some guy will come into a BBS and tell everyone that their wife has decided to leave or get a divorce or something and they had no idea it was coming.  That's OK, it happens.

But when the guy's previous posts indicate that his life pretty much revolves around his garage or wheeling then spending huge amounts of time in his garage fixing the stuff he broke, then I just shake my head.  If you (meaning whomever) spent more time with your wife and less time in the garage, you'd know what your wife was thinking and feeling and maybe you could have dealt with whatever issue caused the divorce/separation/whatever before it got to that point.

Maybe I'm just trying to project my values onto other people, but I believe when you get married it means you shouldn't go on acting like you are single and have nothing but your own free time.  Getting married means making a commitment to another person and that generally entails paying attention to them, at least enough to have some clue about what they're thinking.

Again, I don't have any particular person in mind with this rant and I'm sure that every situation has some kind of special circumstances that someone thinks justify their actions, but the general principle holds true regardless of the circumstances.

My wifes great!!

She's willing to go with me and doen't comeplain about the money.  Of course I don't go wild getting parts.

When I started looking for a Tracker, I was looking "To old" and "Something that needed too much work".  So she told me to up the amount I was looking at and get something nice!!!!

So the next year I told here I was going to put $1000 into it (3" Calimini Suspention).

"OK"

The third year I went to her and told her I was going nuts and was going to invest $5,000 plus... (joind a club with BIG Jeeps)

"OK"

This year "I'd like to get an Anvil, steal carier and rear bumper.

"Ok"

And we just got a new Motorhome and now am looking for a trailer so we can travel in style when we go wheeling.

I also have two girls 6 & 9.  Right now the Tracker is apart in the garage needing the front axil put back together.

My 6 year old is getting very upset with me.  She needs her Tracker fix.

i think u need to learn to use the word bigons...u have way to many oponions on other peoples lives and the way they should be run..just say bigons and let it pass

or to each his own different familys run different ways
