The 'Kick just lost the 2nd soft top in 2 months.
Thieves are too stupid to work a zipper, so they cut the top to open the door. (I used to have a sign in the window, but they stole it 2 years ago.) This time they got about 50 cents in pennies... though a new Bestop will run about $190.
Any way, they also damaged the passenger door rubber. Is this a dealer only item?
-
sorry to hear that. it's one of my fears with my soft top, that's why i'm thinking of buying a bestop hard top later this year. about $2000 canadian, but i think it'll be worth it in the long run.
-
I hope those thieves get cancer, aids and go blind. >:(
That really sucks man. I think the rubber is pretty much a dealer item. I'm in need of them also and can't find them anywhere except for Ebay once and while.
Dude, just leave your doors unlocked. My high school history teacher used to do that with his old Saab. We asked him how come he doesn't lock his car up and his reply was,"Because whatever someone wants to steal wont cost nearly as much as the replacement window."
;D
-
Same thing happend to me at school. Cut my window cause they w ere too lazy to zip it out. Still haven't fixed it. all tey took was a bag of change and were too stupid to get the face plate off. But they were nice enough to lock my doors back up. lol

;D
THATS FOR SURE........I'VE ALLWAYS FELT THAT WAY, SO I NEVER LOCK MY DOORS......I ALLWAYS FIGURE IT TO BE MORE EXPENSIVE TO FIX WHAT THEY WOULD BREAK FOR WHAT THERE GONNA GET........A LOCK ONLY KEEPS AN HONEST PERSON HONEST IS HOW I'VE LOOKED AT IT ;D MATTY 8)
-
Well, at least they didn't get the new stereo.
For some reason, Alpine put a sharp edge on the bottom of the removable faceplate. (Litterally a pain to get locked into place.) I solved that one problem... glued it on with silicone cement. <g>
The insurance won't cover any damage inside if the doors are unlocked. (I'll have to check w/ them again on that ruling.)
-
Just tell them the doors were locked.
I hate to hear stuff like this. Makes me worry even more with the nieghborhood I live in :-/
-
one thing i've done is install an alarm system with an engine emobilizer. the alarm has a shock sensor, and dual proximity sensors. get too close it will chirp, and flash the lights. stick you hands inside the interior, and it goes off, also all three doors are tied in also, open them and it goes off.
then i'll come running down with my colt 45 and fill them bastages with lead....ok maybe not, but i'll open a can of woop ass !!!
-
Agreed, leave the doors unlocked.
It's like locking the glove box, they break in
break your glovebox and still steal your $#!+
it's a no win for you, take the face of the
stereo and leave the doors unlocked.

I like your way of thinking! I have closed circuit television taping the garage where I keep my ride. And one 120lbs English Bull Mastif / Rottweiler mix named Widetrax to keep things evened up. :)
-
Man I am so sorry to hear that. Thieves just suck. I guess i'm pretty lucky to never have had something stolen from my Zuk. The neighbors know that I would shoot first and ask questions later! ;D
-
Just park the car with the top off ;D!!!! like I do. But that seriously sucks man! I'm glad that I never had something like that yet.

Great Dogs!!!!! A friend has two Mastif roaming his yard every night. I love big dogs. My Aunt bred Rott's for a while, I would get out in the yard and wrestle with three of her breeders every time I would go over there. My sister showed up lat for Turkey Day dinner and thought they were malling me ;D

Most of the time, the theives either know you, know of you, or nowadays, heard you. Those impressive sound systems that the youngsters play so 'deep' in the cars, those cars are usually marked, especially a conv't.
I know some people have gone the extent of the high cost alarms system like Agent_Orange has done. Alarm system costing nearly as high as the stereo system. The 'youngster's' whose cash flow is restricted already will spend on the stereo first. What a youngster has done to protect his vehicle is to tie into the doors, interior light (notice it's separate), steering wheel lock and a few other places is a sound system which blairs some 180 dcb into the cab through a single speaker. Them theives do get an ear full. It's all tied together and I'm really surprised he hasn't marketed it. It's been a few years since I heard about this, so maybe it's already out there on the market.
Me, I'm unlocked all the time. I just don't keep my stuff in the vehicle and I'm an old music junkie and don't need the high power stereo.
-
i got a mint conditon suzuki hard top (says suzuki on it) for 20$..then a can of krylon black and i was in buisness...just look at the local wrecking yards people dont know that that top they just paid 20$ for they could sell for like $900 lol
-
So, if the doors are locked, and the top is off, what does the inssurance company say???
-
how do they KNOW that your top was off and your doors were locked???
-
some insurance companys will never cover anything stolen from a vehicle with a soft top.( its in the fine print just gota read it) when my grand pa had the tracker it had a soft top..they stole the radio and CB all screwed down..so usually they would cover it..but because its a hard top they told him there was nothing they would do
they did however replace the top
-

They have their evil ways... ::)
-
I got hit last year. Funny thing was my nice sterio went out 2 days earlier and I swapped a Wal-Mart cheappy in. They got the faceplate and couldnt figure out how to get the radio out. They stole 6 CDs that were scratched that I swore I would throw them out the next time I saw a Garbage can, but then I couldnt get myself to do it. So they got nothing but a faceplate that doesnt fit anything and some scratched cds.
Heres the funny part. In the back seat were a pair of Sony 6 inchers still in the Box! Or how about the WALLET in the door pocket! Just goes to show ya how dumb theives are.

100% true.
-
I just bought a camera to watch the driveway. What kind of recorder do you use with yours?
As for alarms, I haven't had much luck with them. It won't save the top, but might stop a 2nd intrusion.
-

So true. Farmers woldn't cover anything non-factory. (As in any speakers not in the 4" dash grills.) CDs, tools, etc are "home owners" insurance.
Oh, and they have something called "betterment". That's when they take off an additional 1/3 replacement cost for a 2 year old top.
Maybe I need to borrow the neighbor's PitBull/Mastiff, eh? I saw one of them pick up a basketball and pop it.
-
well u can purchase addition coverage..i have 5k to cover the stereo only added like 20$ a month
-
guns dont kill people... the goverment does!!!!
NOT THIS AGAIN :P
-
last year i got hit, but in my 5 door tracker, they smashed a window, stole a $600 Stereo, found the faceplate which was hidden in the pannel near the earbox, stole a minidisk player (worth $250) which was in the glovebox, broke the dashboard, but then they left my bors wallet in the road near the car, and left my bros CD wallet which has about 200 CDs in it ???
We then tried to claim the things and damage on insurance, basicly to set things right it cost us about $850-$900 of stolen stuf, insurance would only give us a miesely $250 >:( and this was with full cover plan..... dam buggers, so we forked out everything ourselfs, so that the primiums wouldn't be raised on us just for $250
-
you know the idea of adding a super high db siren to the interior with a bright strobe light, would add a little extra to my rig, i'll have to look into it. this would bug the sh*t out of someone trying to spend more than a few seconds in there.
-
How about the theft deterrent system from
Robocop, the one that electrocutes the thief
then you just roll the smoking carcass out onto
the driveway >:(
MuHu Hahaha

Agent O, your Tracker is super awesome!

Agent O, your Tracker is super awesome!
thanks
-
what would a be a cool alarm is if u put pressure sensors in the seats, so when the guy sits down, the seat slides forward, trapping him, then it starts to fold down and crush the bugger ;)
-
How about a tazer planted in the seat ;D If someone did not disable it they would get the s#$t shocked out of them ;D

A long time ago, a friend of mine had a BMW 320 and kids kept stealing the emblems of the car at her house. And she could not afford to keep replacing them, so I wired a large capacitor to one side of an isolated plate, and one to another, when the kids came to steal it next time there was a partily melted screw driver wedged between the two plates, Lets just say she did not loose anymore emblems after that.

LOL...that's great! I would pay to see a video of that in action.
Great story. ;D

Thanks. I'll ask again. Last time they told me the radio and front speakers were all I could get covered.

YEA THEY DON'T LIKE TO COVER ANYTHING THAT THEY MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE TO PAY A CLAIM FOR.........

8) Good idea.
While in Panama, Bob had 2 stereos stolen. For the 3rd, he wired 4 herking capacitors and a momentary switch up.
He said it fried the stereo, but the thief never came back. ;D

I wish I knew how to wire one up.
My fence (6' high) was being jumped by local kids. According to code, you can't make the fence top harmful... but it was legal to put carpet tack strip on top of it to "keep possoms off." It was quite a surprise for a certain teenager, too.
Your idea made me think... a piece of plywood w/ carpet tack strip on top. (I already have a cotton sheet over the passenger seat, so it wouldn't show.)
Hmm... I still have tack strip in the garage.

:o BOY WONT THEY BE SURPRISED :-X

There's a Canadian company called http://www.cartops.com that I heard about from a local off-road shop. They're in the Okanogan somewhere. Right now its $900 for a Samurai HT (I'll be buying one later this summer).
-
Cameras: get the hunting type with flash. These cameras are used by hunters to shoot pictures of the paths the animals take. They are battery run and batteries will last a week. There will be a flash, so encase the camera to protect it, or raise it high in the air. To add, these cameras are digital, provide a date/time stamp, and are motion-detected activated.
Simple enough.
At the ORV park, we have several setup. We have more containers than cameras. Once the fense destroyers saw that they were being pictured, they haven't come back. Though they now do take pop shots with their guns. Thus the use of extra containers to protect the cameras. I think the sheriff has a good lead onto the perpetrators as we haven't had any incidents since last summer.

it did RAiSE my rates..but it is worth it..esp since the recipt i have is for 800$ worth of subs but theres only 300 in there =) lol

i checked there website out, but they only show one piece tops for trackers. i e-mailed them inquiring about a two piece but no reply.
no reply = no sale
there is some guy in town who advertises tracker top in the buy&sell for $895 i contacted him through e-mail to send some pics. he did but the fit and finish leaves something to be desired. i'm not a cheap bastard i prefer quality products, and will spend more to get it that's why i'm thinking bestops. it costs twice as much but it's of a higher quality, and you get what you pay for.

I left my doors unlocked and they still slashed the top.....

Yeah, guys who can't work a zipper aren't the brightest around. (Probably why they wear baggy pants... too dumb for the zipper. <g>)
-
The Kick is almost protected. I have to pull out the glovebox this weekend & do some wiring.
A 2x2 board with carpet tack strip, under the seat cover, should get the point across. Oh... and I suddenly have mice in the car... thus the 2 rat traps, one under each seat.
Radio Shaq should have their cheap alarms on sale... the kind where you pull a pin. Sitting atop the glove box (out of sight) the cord will allow the box to be halfway opened, w/o going off.
I also bought a $50 camera/monitor that needs to be wired up, as well as a motion detector that beeps inside when someone enters the driveway. (Not that I'll probably be awake when they come around. I'll send pix if I get it recorded... should be interesting. <g>)
