I am seriously thinking about getting a performance exhaust system or muffler. Can anybody recommend me a manufacturer or their web site so I can take a look see.
Thanks for any info.
-
I just have a Thursh silencer and a gutted cat for "performance exhaust"
lata Stu
P.S. i live in VT. no smog here.
-
I'm running a Calmini header with a flowmaster exhaust. The hard steel casing of the flowmaster makes for a great off road mufler and it sounds / performs great too.

O i all most forgot, people say when my tracker hits 6,500 it sounds like a pack of pissed off bees. that may or may not be what you looking for.
-
I am expecting my Calmini exhaust combo including hi-flo cat within the next couple of weeks, also installing their panel filter and a throttle body spacer at the same time...I'll let you know what the difference is when its installed.
BTW Calmini customer service has been incredible, if their product is half as good as the service I will be very happy!

6500 rpm????!!!! Dude Ive been up some tough trails and never had to rev it that high. Unless you were racing or somethin...
-
No i don't race.  All we do in VT is mud.  if i'm going into a hole that i don't know,  the skinny pedal is barryed in the floor.  or if the water it over the hood then i try to get out of thair as quickly as possable. wheel speed is everthing in mud.  I have stock gears, 5-speed tranny and 34's.
-
Ahhhhh, I see... I dont do the deep mud thing unless it is totally necessary. Last night I went in a hole with my front end and it was over my 33's so I backed out.... A little wimpy but I dont have a winch yet.
Later,
Bill
Oh yeah, I raced a railbuggie with a 2100cc for a 300' run and just held on to take the win.. ;) I launched at 4500 in 2wd and ran thru in 2nd at ?rpm.
-
ya i feel ya.  when you go into a hole you don't know things can get bad quick.  we all ways go wheelin in packs so we never have a truck that we can't get out. thair is only 2 people in the club that i'm in that drive zukis: me and my tracker and mark with his rock crawling sammy.  It does well on rocks but he has to run in 3 gear in the mud. lata Stu

Calmini Header with a custom 2" mandrel bent mild steel pipe, Catco cat (2.5" for better flow) and then a Magnaflow straight through. It's surprisingly quiet at all RPM's and flows like crazy. Sounds pretty good without being all loud and ricey and obnoxious.
-
IN FLAMES WHAT ZUKE YOU RUNNING ???
-
NY_SIDEKICKER, I am running a 2 -door 1991 Suzuki Sidekick JA 8V engine with automatic transmission.
Thanks for all the info guys...but I've looked into that stuff through various online retailers/manufactures like Calmini and so on, and I really can't afford that kind of gear.
The only reason why I asked was because my current stock muffler is falling apart and is noisy as hell... so  I figured maybe I can replace it better with some else.
I think what I'm going to do is buy a new genuine Suzuki exhaust and try and retro fit it to be stronger and more durable then the old one.

OK, I just got back from the exhaust shop. I had my Calmini exhaust combo with hi-flo cat installed. This thing rocks...it revs much quicker now...accidently bounced it of the rev limiter cuz it was pulling so stong. The guys that installed it thought the system cost me around $850, they were blown away when I told them that it only cost $450...these guys do a lot of ricer exahausts...
In short I am VERY impressed with the quailty of the exhaust and the performance gain. Now I just have to throw in my throttle body spacer and hi-flo air filter for that little something extra ;)

To be quite honest, I have been looking at the CALMINI system, (Model #SK901) and when converted to Canadian dollars comes to almost the same as for a genuine Suzuki muffler.  My exhaust is still holding up.  It's just noisy from all the leaks and squeaking parts rubbing together.
So I e-mailed CALAMNI to find out how much shipping to Canada is and I think I'm going to order their system early next spring, after the messy winter is over.  I think it's going to be great!

Hey Dude,
I can give you the entire cost rundown off list...I had mine shipped from Cali to Edmonton after the Ontario rep disappeared. They do have a reputable distributor in Vancouver that may offset the shipping costs a bit. Having said that I have nothing but good to say about Chris from Calmini. Call their 800# and talk with him about you want to do.
I installed the entire system including the hi-flo cat as well as a Calmini hi-flo air cleaner. I highly recommend doing the same thing. This exhaust has a nice mellow tone, does not sound like a ricer when you walk on it...and I tell you it woke this little engine up. Next week I'm installing my throttle body spacer and getting a full tune-up done.
Come Spring I'm hoping to install Calmini's 6" combo lift and some 30's or 31's.

That wouldn't be the same rep that is located in Kitchener Ontario, is it?
As for the air cleaner, I installed a K&N Filter late last month that seems to be working like a charm. CALMINI e-mailed me back with esitmate of $35 US shipping, on top of the $149 US price tage for the system I want. As of now in Canadian funds that's $241 CDN and that's good enough for me! ;D

Yep that would be the one. Apparently she had pneumonia and was out of contact for three weeks...that was at the exact same time I ordered the exhaust through her.
You'll like the exhaust and the customer service.

exhaust update, backing into steep banks is not advised with stock exhaust, may cause exhaust to jump and wrap itself around the rear axle. lol and i cut that sucker right off behind the muffler, and i thought it was loud before. lata Stu

I bought a GTS Bug Deflector off of her and I went to pick it up as Kitchener is a stones throw a way from Toronto in the greater scheme of things. Yeah, she had a pretty decent web site set up and everything, but she, like you said, disappeared. She runs that operation out of her home, so I guess it was getting tough for her to handle.

I ordered my CALMINI muffler today! ;D I hope it get's here in time to be put in on Saturday. :)

HAHAHAH I ordered my calmini body lift going on 4 weeks ago.....good luck with that!
-
I got a complete custom bent 2" exhaust from headpipe to rear with a turbo muffler for $239 canadian. really woke this thing up. Add a cone filter on the intake plenum and lose the high restriction airbox system and it really starts to come to life. ;D
-
Or you could just modify the air box. I don't like running cone airfilters because they aren't very well protced from the elements. In mud or water the fan will spit mud all over the filter. In sand they get dirty in about 12 seconds. I ran three smaller hoses up behind the grill. Hopefully they are getting more (and colder) air. I don't know if they help, but it lets me sleep better at night.

Oh no...I hope it doesn't take that long. I also realized that I've maxed out my credit card when I made the purchase... I hope my bank lets me slide, I really, really want this thing.
Oh man it's going to be a dry summer making payments on that damn Visa card. ::)

<<calmini header($?), flowmaster mufler off ebay ($38), 2" x 10 ' straight muffler pipe from auto parts stor($20)-had pipe bent to match stock rear one ($20). running w/o a cat and the sound of pissed bees in a tin can, pricless ;)
have to have a welder though :(
-
don't worry people always use to make fun of the sound of my tracker, i still remember the jokes, "holy shit, i thought that their was a bunch flys fucking over their". they don't talk about it anymore. ;D

I got my muffler today! I did have to call Calmini again because my card was maxed out... :-/ I put some money in it and they shipped it out! I'm going to have it put in Saturday morning! I've been driving around for about a year with a leaking noisy muffler and it's been driving me crazy! >:(
Oh man, let the good times roll. ;D
I know it's really no big deal, but I'll take some pics.
-
cut out everything and put in a diesel muffler made for a turbo version engine.
-
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem with the header but if you have a stick watch out for the clutch cable.
The old manifold has some nice heat sheilds on it and the header doesn't.
Anyway, the clutch cable is held together with a plastic cover.  When your off roading and not much air flow is going into the engine compartment, it will (at least mine did with 2 cables) ment the plastic and the cable will come apart.
I fixed mine by winding wire around it from the dash to the front of the engine.  It now looks like I have a spring around it.
Now eventhough the plastic gets hot the cable can't unwine.

In_Flames do what i did just cut of the muffler and run a stright pipe back, I've been runnin like that for a year now and no police problems yet.
P.S it's loud but it increased the power on the take off.

Yeah right, so I can fail Ontario's strict air pollution test that I have to do before I can renew my license. :P

No way dude, that's my whole issue, NOISE!! Now I know this is a "turbo" muffler, but it will run a lot nicer and quieter then the raggy stock one I have now, plus the Calmini muffler is of excellent build quality and I hope it to last much longer then the crusty OEM muffs.
-
I cant imagine a muffler lasting longer than a stocker my original went for 8 years and Im in salt country.

The turbo muffler is somewhat noisier than stock, but not as loud as the low-rider Honda cars. (I like the sound... sort a low gutteral grumble.)
BTW, you'll save yourself a lot of grief having a muffler shop do the job, unless you have your own lift and torch. Calmini's mounts and pipes aren't bent quite right. They also added a couple J brackets (welded to the muffler) to make up for the missing factory supports.
Otherwise the exhaust won't always align & will leak between the Cat & flange.

Wow that's amazing, I've gone through 3 OEM mufflers so far...

I don't mind a nice "toned" sound coming out, but I can't stand that loud farting noise that's been happening to the last year. Really drives me nuts with highway driving.
I have a mechanics shop literally steps from my door that are going to do the job this Saturday morning. They know my Sidekick inside out and are also avid off roaders and street guys. They'll get the job done right.
Thanks for the info, bro. :)

Good. I think you'll love the sound & may see some slight power improvement. I can occasionally hear it on the FW w/ the top/windows down.
-
Yes i still have the cat and as long as they dont look under the truck your alright. And i just did my drive clean in march and PASSED with flyin #. And i have 340,000km
on my truck.
-
That's good news, tomorrow morning is all systems ago!
340000 clicks eh...I hope to reach that kind of mileage one day. I've got just 190000kms.
-
The trick to the high km's is OIL CHANGES. I do one once a month needed or not.
-
What a drag, man...my mechanic could not put in the exhaust because he said that the flange on the Calmini pipe who not line up properly.  The reason being that it's not the "donut shaped" flange and there would be room for leaks.  So I gotta wait until next week now.  ::)
Once a month oil changes?  Yikes, that would rocket me to the poor house.  I use Mobil 1 and K&N oil filters which don't come cheap.  I change every 5000kms even and I seem to being running as good as ever.
-
Well my father owns his own shop,(25yrs now) and I am
a machanic also so it's not that expensive. I spend about 240 a year. alot cheeper than a motor. And besides I put about 10,000 kms a year just in offroading the superzuki so its a small price to pay to have fun.
-
That's cool man, I should have taken a mechanic job. Maybe it's not to late still.
Maybe you know what my mechanic is talking about? Does this donut flange remark sound right? ???
-

i change my oil every 2000km nedded or not. comes out clean goes in clean. it's the trick to making engines last for many miles. my old 91 turbo sprint had 240000km when i sold it, and it ran as good as new, and never burned a drop of oil. it adds to the cost of maintenance but it's worth it in the long run.
-
Ya he is tellin the truth unfortunatly. :(
-
Ok well why would Calmini make the flange on the pipe this way? I am pretty bummed out this weekend... I've been waiting to put this thing in for a long time now...oh well...a few more days is no big deal.
As for the oil change...If I bought the cheap stuff, then I would definately change it frequently...but since I buy top qaulity product, I think 5K kms should be ok.
It's good to know that some people take care of their cars this good...some people have no clue and it pains me to see their rides suffer. :-/

2In pipe all the way back with a super trap at the end. Kill's two birds with one stone. It acts as a muffler and a spark arester. And sounds SWEET 8)

OK, time for my two cent's worth
A turbo muffler is just that, designed
for a turbo system, it's a little louder
because a turbo knocks a lot of noise
out of the exhaust note, in fact I'm thinking
of just running a cat and a straight pipe
out the back on the new exhaust system,
I might put a 3' glasspack on there for a little
more noise reduction, or a turbo muff, not
sure yet, but I do know I'm going to open
up the exhaust system to a big bore, thinking
about 3" system right now.
I have all the back pressure I need from the
turbo, now I need to reduce exhaust pressure
out the back.

anyone ever try a pacesetter header/cat? I see they have high flow 2", 2 1/4", 2 1/2", and 3" cats. Just wondering if they were quality?

Stay away from Pacesetter...its junk, very cheaply built..hence the cheap prices.

lol I figured. Just thought I'd ask if anyone ever used 'em.
