I need a new motor for my samurai but I am torn between my options. Should i go with the 1.3, or should i up to the 1.6. However, if i get the 1.6 will i have to change my transmission or gearing because its a more powerful motor? if i get a new 1.3, will my transmission go out eventually because the new motor is putting out more power than my old one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go with the 1.6 conversion you shouldn't need to replace anything. All thought it might be a good idea to rebuild the transmission while you have everything torn apart. Nothing is more annoying then having to tear your rig back apart just after putting it together because you didn't want to spend the extra time going one further step.
The question really is do you want to spend the extra time and money to put the larger motor in your rig, or are you perfectly happy with the 1.3l? More power is always nice, but a 1.3 rebuild is cheaper and less time consuming.

If i get a rebuild 1.3, will i have to work on my transmission too. since its a new motor with an old transmission?

if it is working fine now, it will be fine with a new or bigger. Miles is really what kills the tranny.

I did a 1.6l 16V engine swap a little over a year ago. First time I worked on an engine in 35 years, went in real easy. I purchased the motor from JDM out of NJ; $740.00 delivered to my door. Guaranteed to have less than 80,000 Km, or 55,000 miles. Came with PS pump, alternater and starter. I taught of rebuilding the 1.3, but the JDM price was hard to beat, plus the extra power.

Have you thoght of doing a drivetrain swap from a doner Trackick? It's not that difficult to do.
