Title: Axle shaft/brake swap??
Post by: 95XL7 on May 27, 2004, 09:05:01 AM
Are GV axles shafts the same length as the 98 and below shafts? I got a line on a complete rear brakes and axles/bearings from a G.V. and want to know for sure if this will work. ???

No. For bigger brakes get the 4-door sidekick rear brake assemblies The backing plate with all the guts and the drums. They are quite a bit larger than 2 door and bolt in their place using your stock axle housing and axles. Front discs and calipers from a 4-door are bigger as well and they too bolt in place.

Stuart,
Still got my eye open for some four door brakes for you.  I've been stuck working 42 of the last 45 days, been hard to get out and rummage thru the U-pull it like I want to.

94 and older will bolt on a 90 tracker. Also XL7- If you want to retain the studs on the axle you should also go with the94 and older 4 door parts.

Well i checked and the 99 2 door and GV rearends are the same width, same part#.
Now is the vitara 2 door rearend wider than the 98 and below??
Are the axle tubes bigger or just inside bearing diameter and the outside diameter the same?
Axles might be longer due to the wider drums? ???

If you want this, get 96-98 Sidekick axles. Go walkin' through the junk yard and you can get these. I was using the 5 -bolt flange Sidekick axles with appropriate drum. BUT in my experience these axles are actually worse than the 4-bolt flange axles. The metal seems even more brittle, if you can believe that, I'd stick with the 4-bolt axle flange and the 'drum brake adapter' system.... :)
