Title: Replacing valve cover gasket on 2001 XL7
Post by: coykiesaol on May 09, 2011, 01:33:18 AM
My valve cover gaskets are leaking onto the manifold and causing lots of smoke coming up around the hood. The dealer quoted me about $350 to fix.

I was wondering if this is a Job I could tackle myself. I used to help my dad work on engines when I was young (14 y.o), but that was 30 years ago. I did recently replace the rear shocks and fix a sway bar link (easyj jobs, i know) and I'm a pretty good DIY'er in general.

Does anyone have a rundown of what's involved? Mainly, what do I need to remove to get to the covers. Once I get to the covers, I'm pretty confident about getting them off, cleaned, and put back on with sealant and new gasket.

This is a 2001 XL-7 6Cyl 2.7L

Thanks
