Title: Custom rods: steering arm hole size?
Post by: zuki1018 on May 09, 2011, 03:46:49 PM
Game plan: make my own steering rods.

My stockers are all shot.  I am trying to find out what new rod ends will drop into the steering arm holes ahead of time so i can order the parts.  I already have some beefy DOM.

I also have some "manly" rod ends but they are 3/4x3/4 bolts.  I would consider drilling the arms for 3/4 but man thats a lot of work with a drill bit (no drill press either).

Do you think upgrading to my 3/4 is the way to go or should i figure out the stock hole size?

What kind of ride is it? That would help anyone in giving you solid advice.

Ah!  This is an 86' Samurai.

Looks pretty close to 1/2" but I have not taken things apart yet.  I may just bore them to accept the ends I have... they should outlast the stockers by a long shot.

If you drill the holes out to 3/4", is there going to be enough "meat" left around the perimeter of the hole?  You don't want to make it so thin that the holes tear out....that would be really bad.
