Post by: Tom Slick on May 10, 2011, 01:52:17 PM
Wondering if anyone has installed a Mazda Miata engine or Engine & Trans in their Samurai. Should be alot available 1.6, 1.8, & 2.0L from 130 Hp to 180 hp. Auto, 5 spd & 6 spd trans.

As a Miata owner I support this idea.

I have the 1.8 in my '94 and thats thing would be awesome in a similar weight Sami.  Gotta rev the piss out of it to get power but its a very reliable and compact package.  Would probably fit nicely.

I have a hunch that it's been looked at before and the trans is too long.  It would probably work in a stetched Samurai or a 2wd one that ditches the t-case.  Hmmm....another potential engine for my pipe-dream 2wd slammed Samurai.

I've owned 5 miatas.  The bp6 motor was sold in 90_94 mercury capri turbo and non turbo, 90_94 ford escrot gt and a few other. Might even bolt to mazda b2000 truck tranny. So yhere are tranny options if the long miata tranny is a problem   and yes they are a tough motor . Check out miata.net and most anyone autocross sites
