Title: Zuk newb here with a question for ya
Post by: Zombie_Zuk on May 12, 2011, 02:13:39 AM
after rolling my car down the mountain last wednesday (old stage road, if you live in colorado youll understand), i realized....wtf was i doing with a car up on the mountains?! i need a friken 4x4!! that being said i didnt wanna get a big honkin truck cuz i want something i can wheel with but still drive to work without draining me dry for gas. so......i discovered the sammi's and i instanly fell in love  :o

i only have one question and its prolly gonna sound stupid (especially cuz after i buy mine ima throw a roll cage in that mutha) but since they are so narrow and undoubtedly top heavy, what modifications should i get (besides wider tires) to help make it more stable. my cousin recommends spacers but id like to hear what you zuk experts have to say.

cant wait to hear what you guys have to say and i cant wait till i have the money to get my sammi and join the zuk nation!

They are actually very stable but a bit of extra width does help. My preference would be for different rims to get a wider stance rather than spacers.

I went a bit further then most people making my 96 2-door a safe dd.

1" wheel spacers, I liked my current rims and 1.5" spacers were to wide
Rear Anti-Sway bar
1" Spring spacer in the rear
Grand Vitara Front Springs
Bilstein Shocks and Struts with 3/4" front strut spacer.
235/75 R15 Toyo All Terrains

The ride is nice and tight, the rear end will kick out before she feels unstable.  If the alignment is off at all it will dart from lane to lane on the freeway without hesitation, or any prodding.  I used to run a spring spacer up front, but find that the GV springs are a much better ride.  With the heavy duty struts, the rear spacer, the sway bar and heavy duty front springs I find that the ride is a little to rough at times, my next upgrade will be to get some OME springs and see if that hits the sweet spot for handling and a sports car feel.

Sadly you need to sacrifice one to get the other, unless you are going to swipe an active suspension system from a much newer car.  :)

thanks that was very helpful  :)

im told swapping out the original leaf springs for YJ leaf springs also helps improve ride quality alot and its not that expensive so that might be another thing you could consider doing for a less costly suspension upgrade.

A guy here in AZ just bought THE Sammi at auction that was used to dis-prove the CR allegations. It is the real deal and documented.
We were thinking of making this Sammi The Mecca Sammi. A yearly wheel to The Sammi  8) Ammmmmmmmmmmmm!

YJ springs are a good option for stability and lift, also recomend wheel spacer no matter what width you have for stability and turning.
