went to start my stock 86 sammi and the engine made about a 1/4 rotation then NOTHING. the entire electrical took a dump,there is no power at all I checked all the fuses under dash and nothing blown(no power to fuse block). Is there a fuse before the fuse panel? Please help

Under the hood by the battery there is a big fuse, like
60 amp that is the main supply for the vehicle, there might
be a cover over it, and there is usually a window on the top
to see if they are blown, should be a color like green or pink

Check your grounds too. There should be a wire coming off of the negative battery post that grounds to the firewall next to the battery.

As previously stated, there are two things to check first:
1) The fusible link, small green wire, coming off the (+) battery post.

Check it by gently pulling on the ends. If it's blown, it will be a bit springy, not solid in the middle. It's made of special flameproof wire & insulation. Suzuki dealer has 'em, or you can splice in a suitable replacement link from the auto-parts store. I carry a spare -- they're cheap.

2) Chassis ground is a black wire at the battery (-) post going to chassis sheet metal just a few inches away. EVERYTHING except the starter relies on this wire. Some Zukers add a braided, flexible grounding strap from the starter/bellhousing area to the chassis, as is often found on other cars. [Sounds like a really good idea to me! ]

Thanks for all the replies guys. Unfortunetly the previous owner did away with the fuseable link and just hard wired it with a butt connector, had the battery tested and it was fine. Held my tester on the fuse block and the light is dim but when I connect the battery charger it's much brighter, when I try to turn it over(charger or not) all power turns off. As soon as I let off the starter lights come back on immediatly, maybe a short????

it still sounds like a ground issue to me still. could be cable end,key switch bad (short-ground),or maybe solenoid/starter bad or fuse block connections. :)

WHen you solve this problem, i would def get a fusable link back into that system. That is there for a reason and the last thing you want is your sammy going up in flames!!!

I too had a complete power shutdown, twice! After the first time I bought a new battery even though it showed good voltage but was on the older side. It worked then shut down again.
Make sure there is no other hot wires from the battery going into a aftermarket connector panel where other items like CB, auxiliary lights, clicky starter, etc. are connected to. I have one of those. There was a bad connection at the battery. It "looked good" so I kept going around it looking for a fix. In my case the hot wire to this connector panel broke right at the battery but the insulation hid it. Not sure how I did my connections for this to effect the power, but all is well now. ;D
