how hard is it to change an o2 sensor on my stock header on my 94 tracker....any tips would be greatley appreciated
-
If it's an 8v, then it'll be as simple as having an o2 sensor socket, a ratchet, and an extension. If it's a 16v (I don't believe 94 came with them) there's one behind the catalytic convert as well as the one in the exhaust manifold.

Unless its seized......

My O2 was still good, but it was the
origonal, so I thought it could use
a new one :P it was seized, tore
the threads out, so I had to cut a
large nut in half that had the proper
thread and weld it to the manifold.
Then the new Bosch O2 I bought
quit working in like 9 months >:(
and had to spend another $30 to
get another one, so if yours is working
leave it to do it's job.

I guess I'm lucky then... mine popped right out and right back in... I don't believe that I used any penetrating oil, either.
That's whatcha get for having no other bolts seized up, you darned Californians ;) ;D
-
:'( I'm sorry you have rusty nuts
;D

The old rusty nuts got replaced with some shiney new ones, though. Feels much better now :o ;D

i think its siezed it wont budge and im usen a o2 socket
im letten sum penetrating oil sink in now.....would heating it with a blow torch help to loosen it up?
-
It's all luck.
I was going to a new header. So with the manifold on the workbench, several days of oiling, and heat I still pulled the threads out.
Had to buy a new one. :o

i guess time to bring it to the mechanic for $25
-
If someone will do it and take responsobility for it for $25. It just might be worth it.

Wow. That's worth about $180, when I priced the dealer part.

Try running the engine for a bit, that put a bit of heat into the manifold

No, no, no, no, no! The 16 valve started in 92, and still had only ONE O2 sensor through 95. It may have gotten two O2 sensors after 95, on the OBDII models.
I just used a big box-end wrench to remove all of mine, and never had a problem. ??? Oh, and it's a lot easier to remove the O2 sensor with the exhaust manifold out of the vehicle. Perfect time to put on that Calmini header - it REALLY makes a difference!
