Title: Rear drive shaft solid as rock
Post by: segermech on May 31, 2011, 06:11:57 AM
94 sammy.

Interesting strory...I pulled my rear axle on the weekend an found that my driveshaft length is fixed thanks to a missing boot.  It's rusted together solid as a rock.  Suprisingly it didn't drive that bad.  I'm soaking it in penitrating oil right now and will try to press it a little to free it up.  I don't think adding heat would be a good idea but what do you think.  I would like to get a used one.  Anyone have a rear driveshaft for a 94 sammy?  Mine has flanges on both ends.

Thanks.

I think you will be fine adding heat. I sure would. just plan on replacing u-joints.

Give Hawk Suzuki a call, they should be able to help you out.  I forget what year they switched to the larger flanges, I want to say 88.5 but I could be wrong.

Yeah, 88.5 was the first year that the large pattern driveshafts were available.  Some 88.5s had large, some had small.
You could also buy an 86-88 driveshaft and just swap your driveshaft ends over to them.  All samurai driveshafts use the same sized ujoints, so it is an easy swap.
Oh, and all samurai driveshafts have flanges on both ends.

Apply some heat to it, it will surely work.

I tried heat and a lot of pressure and it would not budge.  Wow everyone check the boot and add some grease to this connection.

I'll have to buy one.  So I should be able to use my flanges with any samurai rear shaft???

Yep just change out the flanges and you can use any rear samurai shaft.
