ok -- goofy question but i've googled all I can...

Where do y'all go to get the name of a part or the location of the part for a specific motor? 

All I get with google are service manuals --- is that what they are called?

Yea, the FSM, or Factory Service Manual.  You should check out Acks Faq:

You will have to do some interesting searches as you have an engine from a Geo Tracker but anything body based will be in the Samurai FSM.
