Hi
I just bought a 2011 Grand Vitara 2.4 A/T and I was surprised how high the rpm's go cruising in the highway. I was cruising at 110-115 km/h and the tach showed around 3000 rpm. About the same ratio than a 5 speed manual car. Of course I was in D. I expected 2000 rpm for 115 km/h, like other automatic vehicles (for example: Escape 2.5 4x4)
I would appreciate if somebody can give some input about the subject. I wonder if it is normal for the GV 2011 auto
Thanks in advance

Hi I just got my first zuki this weekend ,actualy my first non american vehicle i think im turning japanese i really think so lol. I think we have the same Vitara limited, love it so far. I think the reason for the high rpms is when in drive its not an overdrive like a 5 speed a/t . I dont know why they didnt go with a 5sp.a/t with overdrive it would really im prove the gas mileage. Thats my 2 cents correct me if im wrong ;D

Hi,
The 4sp AT does have an overdrive gear, (4th). It is just barely better than 1:1 though.
The real problem is the small perol engine and the hp/torque output. The engine has to spin into that range for there to be enough power to pull the GV down the road at that speed.
