Title: Keep it simple
Post by: SKINNY_PEDAL on June 02, 2011, 01:04:29 AM
So I just purchased this 88 jx 2 weeks ago. I sold my 79 Toyota to get into something simpler and more streetable. Plans are for this summer at least. spoa with 31's. Stock gears with spool rear, maybe will get a lockright and chromo shafts installed up front. 6.5 tcase gears, full cage and fuel injection swap. So far I have got the doors modified for easy removal, got the light tabs for the windshield, relayed the starter, installed the rear spool. Also had to get a new housing since the original was bent; so i rebuilt the knuckles while I had it apart. Lift should be next. Hope you enjoy, im having a blast building/ driving this glorified side by side

Yeah the story I got was the original owner flat towed it behind his RV. The guy I got it from was kinda a hillbilly and I think lightly wheeled it. We get lucky here in Washington...no rust.

Looks Great!!

All I can say is;
until the last pic, "You Have Issues Man!!"
                        Some Kind of NEATNESS FREAK?
Your shop looks like a "Operating Room"!!!
It looks like one of the "Speed Show" TV shops!!
No cut off parts to trip over, no floor dry to grind into your shorts sliding under your rig,
No Bench Clutter (MT Beer Bottles/Cans; Days Old Pizza Boxes), and I could go on........

REALLY, I AM JUST JEALOUS!!

Well ordered my basic spoa from Lowrange couple weeks ago. Been slowly working on it when I get home at night. Had my friend who is a fabricator burn the spring perches on for me. He also came over and took measurements to build the shock mounts/ towers. I made a custom leaf pack up front. Using stock sami rears I took the two bottom springs off the front leaf pack and added it to the rear pack. Is definetly made a difference. I need to get another set of stock front springs to build for the back. I need to get new longer u-bolts made and order my crossover steering this week. Ill proboly order tires now to since I know 33's will fit 8) Enjoy.

Very nice lookin JX. If you are considering a front locker you might want to look into the Spartan. It is similar in design to the Lockrite and in my opinion is very well made and simple to install. It is cheaper than the Lockrite also  ;)  I have run both a Lockrite and the Spartan. The Spartan is a little quieter. Cheers

Got my new u bolts made today!. After adding extra leaves to the packs the stockers weren't gonna work. Plus its piece of mind having new bolts.Picking up my tires friday. So things are moving along. Also bit the bullet and finally bought a welder of my own! That will be here wednesday so I can build my shock towers. Ill be driving this again very shortly!

And a picture of the welder. Its a snap on 220v. My snap on guy gave me a killer deal so I couldn't say no. I've used there welders in the past and easily compare them to a Miller. So im pumped!

Well got a lot done this week/weekend. Got the rear packs built. Got the brakelines, driveline spacers, z-link installed. Torqued everything down, got the brakes bleed. Then got to do some driveway posing:D Got the steel Saturday to build my shock mounts so hopefully can get those knocked out this week. Getting very close to wheeling. Felt good to drive it today. Also tossed a 31" on there to check for clearance. Will need 33's:redneck:  Local built the z-link for me and the tcase bucket. They came out great. Pulled it out today and flexed it on my trailer and loaded it on the trailer to see how it fit.

Got some new rubber today. 33x12.50 bfg muds. Sami looks much better with some rubber under it. I have my shock mounts being built at the moment and should have them back middle of next week. Gonna put the stockers on so I can go for a small wheeling trip to see how bad im gonna need tcase gears.

Got motivated yesturday in the heat. It it 82 here in Washington! Anyhow I cut the front bumper mount/crossmember ears off today and flipped my u-bolt plates to put the stock shocks back on. Hopefully next weekend I can put my new shock towers on and doetsch shocks.

Later in the evening I got bored  and decided to install my tcase bucket. Thing is beef! Now I need to smash it against something ;D

Lookin good so far!
Heat? 82 would be wonderful!  been near or over 100 for 10 days now with heat indexes near 110 with the humidity. Don't want to do ANYTHING outside.
