Title: Samurai Electric Fan
Post by: DaddyDave on May 25, 2004, 08:11:48 AM
Is it possible or has anyone run a high performance electric fan in their Sammy?  Just curious.

I put one on an early 88 that I had a while back.
It was a 10" fan with a built in shroud.  No a/c on the Sami.

In very hot weather while out wheeling it kept the Sami cool.

I sold the Sami to a friend of mine and the fan still works great.  You will get many different stories on electric fans.  I was happy with it.  ;D

did it basically fit in the stock location without any major fab work?  just curious.  Thanks for the help.

The one I put on, I did no fab work to it.  It was almost a perfect drop in.  It has a thermostat on it so it automatically comes on.

I don't have any pictures of the install.  I can get a picture of the finish product.

I bought the fan at a closeout store so I don't know what brand it is.

I know this isn't much help.  :-[

I can say the fan works great.

i will be putting one on my sammy in the coming months and might just be pulling a fan out of a junk car to cool it.  i sure that it won't be hard to hook up and put on the rad.

why do you want electric? so you can turn it on when it gets hot manually?
ive heard from a few people engine driven fans work much better... not sure though, plus they probably dont hit the same rpm

Not a Sammy, but this may be of some interest in case you missed it...  http://www.zukiworld.com/cgi/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=suzuki_talk;action=display;num=1085267357

I have read that Sami cooling issues can be solved with a new fan clutch. I have seen vendors listing them for $100. :P As we start reaching tiple digits here in So Cal, the question remains, which option is going to cool better? If the electric fan goes out, what can you do? Just a couple of things to consider. :)

It basicly helps in deep water crossings. If you can't shut off your fan, the water will make it flex into the Raditor.  I guess ;)

so basically you just bolt the elec. fan to the radiator and remove the stock crank fan right?  just checking!

That's what I did on mine.

I will take some pic's this weekend.

I don't know how well you will see anything.
