You should have made the top go over the roll bar and curve down at 45 degrees like the old Kayline bikini did.  This version, like the Bestop bikini, doesn't provide enough coverage from the sun.

Most folks with their seat all the way back have their heads almost centerline with the roll bar.

Both good comments!  :)

I chose this design for driver visibility looking back with the rear view mirror. The "fastback" design blocked part of the view. Maybe because I am taller than most it is more pronounced with me.

I know exactly what you mean with the sun coming in from behind. I must say however, that unless you are always driving away from the sun, it usually is not a problem, and I am one of those that do not like sun on my head. The other alternative is to get total coverage with the Safari Top. This model goes all the way back to the rear tension bar.

One of the reasons our products are so successful is from comments and great ideas from you the real in the field user. Perhaps we could get some of the "fastback" designs on the market and see how they sell.

Both Eric and I are over 6 foot too.  I don't think much rearward visibility would be lost if you trimmed the back section like the old Kayline top.

Having it extend past the roil bar would also give better rain-shower protection too.

I have had that design for several years I just never put it on the market. What I will do is have the factory make some up. I will put my sample back on today (if I can find it) as I have to do some freeway driving and see how it works. I think I had the bugs worked out on it but will find out today.

Back to the shop. Thanks for the input.

Yep, and this will help differentiate your product from the other Bikini top on the US market.

I do have a "fastback" mesh top that I used today as I was looking for the cordura version. That actually is pretty nice. Feedback on that version?   ???

I've never had a mesh top, so I can't comment there.  I have an old Kayline safari top and several of the cheap, but inadequate Bestop bikinis.

I have a Bestop and hate it. Primarlly because I have a 6 point roll cage and it doesn't strap up like it should. I know this isn't their falt because of my alterations. It doesn't strech out nice like it should and I haven't had time to mess with it yet.

If the 2 side straps were longer or velcro instead of snaps they would strap up to the cage bars above the occupants. Like the comments above I would like to see the top extend farther back and either strap to the cage or to the inner soft top pull downs.

I would even opt for a couple of cinch brackets like Jeeps have on the upper rear corners. My ride with this cage doesn't have a rear seat. I installed a toolbox in this area.

Another type of top I have been looking for is a Trail Top. Something I can throw on quick for overnite. Something that covers from front to back and the door areas. It doesn't have to be much just something that I can put on quickly in the event of rain. It would be great if it had a bag to stuff it in when not in use and I could stick it in my toolbox.

I want to run the Bikini top all summer and not have to keep sticking my doors back on and strapping down a 8' tonneau coverover the remaining open air part of my Sammy.

Got anything like this in the works or on hand?

We already make a fastback Jeep top for the older models and it has side pull straps for the roll bar just behind the driver/passenger seat. The Jeep top gets very tight with no flapping. I am working on a Samurai version as we speak (type!).

The Jeep top can be found on eBay to give you an idea: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170645687158&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170645687158&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT)

I will keep the board updated.

tuxblacray, perhaps I can custom make one for you, or, our Full Safari Top may be the ticket.

I'll shoot a couple of pics today so you can get a good idea of what I am talking about concerning the Bikini Top. Your link is what I was referring to above. How would this style Bikini Top cinch tight in the rear? (Use the exsisting Samurai Soft Top brakets or additional brackets that fit on the round upper body corners like a Jeep does?

I had a Safari Top that I made from my old  soft top and sold it. It was more top than I wanted to pack around during the summer. Do you have anything in the works that looks like this:

That is a trail cover for a Heep that can be trown on quickly at the hint of rain. It can be wadded up and thrown in a bag for a quick pack around.

If I can't come up with anything I guess I will buy a small El Cheapo water proof / resistant car cover withan elastic bottom.

                                                                                                                                  Tux...

That top is beyond what I would like to get involved in. I am able to do a "one off" on our tops with a slight dimension change.

I use a Safari style bikini stop and it's just pulled down in the back into a fast-back style.  And it really needs a rear window cut in it but I'm technically still legal due to two mirrors.

Well well, it looks like the customer is always right! I was at the factory today and found we do have a fastback model in development. I was fine tuning a few things on it and should be ready in about two weeks.

I have it the "Samurai High Speed Test" on the freeway |removethispart|@ about 65-75 MPS and absolutely NO flapping!

There will be a mesh and Cordura version. Check out the "spy photo". (Made to look like it was taken under dubious conditions with bad lighting and chance of capture).

I made a few errors on grammar but for sure I did not go 65-75 MPS (Miles Per Second!), I meant MPH ( Miles per Hour).  :sleepy:

I only see a red x as well.  I also get the same error on my iphone.  Anyways, glad to hear that you are making the modifications to the top.  I think it will sell quite well, especially if you can keep it at $75 like your first bikini design.

Sorry guys, the image shows up on my end but not on my Droid phone. I see that the format is not right for on line viewing. I will fix it.

In the meantime, close your eyes and imagine a bikini top that goes down past the targa bar by about a foot or so at a nice angle to keep the sun off your back. This magic top has some added straps that no other "fastback" has on the market.

Now imagine you are flying through space in your Samurai fighting the evil empire of makers of tops that flap in the wind. It is hard work as they hide behind the force field of noisy vinyl with the hideous "flapper noise gun".

Do your part, fight the flap! ----- before it gets you!

I think the STC (Kayline) top offers better rearward visability.

The center of the cutout should end 3-4" past the targa bar.  The center of the cutout in the picture ends about 18" past the targa.

Greg you are a nut with a good sense of humor and a great imagination! Drone Thanks for the photo! It helps me see what the voices can't picture......

I think this top will work. Those are the stock Sammy down posts from the OEM roall bar aren't they? Do to the forecast for rain I slid my soft top back on. Once it clears up a bit I will take some pics. (Providing my new camera arrives soon..... (Stupid High Tech stuff.....).

I went around the visibility topic earlier in this post. I mentioned the rear visibility issue because I am tall, several wrote back saying they are tall too but want the rear coverage.

I am over 6' and can see out the back. If I was a little shorter it would be even better. Remember, if you are not happy with our stuff, you can always return it with no hassle.

You cant lose, you can only be a winner. And winners like to go four wheeling and don't like sun beating down the back of their neck. Plus, chicks dig guys that have a "fastback" bikini top. See, another winner!

Greg, I took a day off Saturday to work in the G-Rage and I put on some new shoes (34x9.5x15) and shot some pics of the roll cage with my soft top on. (Yes, I got another D-Camera, lets see how long before this piece of crap breaks!)

Because my photography skills are much less than par Sunday after church I will come home and take the top off and snap a few pics. Maybe after a couple of dozen or so I will be able to get a few good enough to post.

Shucks, I'll even throw that turd of a Bikini top I have now on there for the full visual effect.... ROFL......

Worked all day yesterday getting out the bugs on the new Breeze-O-Top 1000 Denier Cordura Fastback Bikini Top. We improved the rear visibility for us tall folks but still kept the major downslope dimension for rear sun, wind and rain protection.

Start looking for them late next week at select Breeze-O-Top vendors.   ;D  We will not sell these from our site but want to give our loyal vendors first dibs on selling these nice tops.

Almost there,

Greg

I know ..... you thought I got lost rite? LOL... Well with rain everyday it's tuff to go topless. However I did buy a waterproff car cover and it seems to work out pretty well. It lets me run topless to work and home. If it looks like rain I just throw it on and go about my business.

Anyway, that being said I did take a few pics today so you can get an idea of what I am talking about.

Well crap I hit enter too soon and don't see an edit button.... Here are a few more:

another problem I might have with a longer top is the 2 mounting post you see in the middle of the rear roll bar. Those hold my Hy-Lift jack. When it is mounted in place it sticks up about 3-4 inches.

Right now the bar is uncovered but I plan on covering it with pipe wrap. (I know its vain but I think it will look good. Ha-Ha)

And........ that's my story and I'm stickin to it....  ::)                                       Tux...

Well, I am thinking  :sleepy:, maybe, just maybe, our new Fastback top may work. If your Hi-Lift is mounted on the roll cage I think it may still work. Of course it will "flow" over the Hi-Lift but because the top tapers inward it won't look lame, or will it?

We can start from there. If I have to I can put a reinforcement piece where the jack would hit the cordura.

What to think of that?  Or do you total top coverage like a Safari made to work with your rig?
Title: Re: Breeze-O-Top Install Video, Check It Out!
Post by: tuxblacray on June 24, 2011, 02:18:50 PM

I would be more interested in the Fastbach style top. I had a Safari top and sold it. Truth be known the standard Samurai soft top should be made like like uhhhh well uhhh JEEP. Ya I know I should'nt say that but its true. They are just damn nice. Sides / back window roll up and make a Safari Top.

Give me the measurements from the targa down to the nylon ties in each corner. I would also like the middle arch measurement. How long are the side straps that mount to the targa to windshield bar? I only have roll cage above my head. My roll cage for the driver & passenger is about 4-5 inches from the targa to windshield bars. The Bestop strap are to short by about 4 inches. In my opinion these s/b a cinch buckle and velcro ends so the don't flap aroun and sty put.

Somewhere in all of this the subject of $$$ should come up so that folks know what a great deal your going to make them on you newtop!

Thanks for your help Greg!!!                                                          Tux...  8)

Our tops are made in a underground missile silo with big doors, everything is so secret with the dimensions and all. When I get the final Fastback Top version I can send it to you for a fit. I think we may get lucky as is.

How would that work? Give me about another week or so. We have a lot in the production line right now and this would be by far the least expensive way to do it at this time.

Hang in there and stay dry.
