... well, maybe not as bad as putting a Zuk body on a different company's frame...
Anyway, I wanted to know what everyone's thought's were on putting a Samurai body on a Sidekick chassis, complete with the IFS.
My body is in fairly rough condition, plus it's a 2-door hardtop, and I have wanted a convertable since I bought it. If I'm unable to find a Tracker tub, would it be looked down upon to stick a Sammy body on my kick?

I think thats cool. I don't think anyone would look down on you for that! It sounds to me like a big job, I admire that! If you have the skill man, go for it!!

My only concern right now is the difference in wheel-bases... but a little chopping of the wheel wells should solve that problem... next proble: body mounts.
Also, does the sammy have a guage pod thinger like the Tracker does?
Also, on titling a thing like this, would I be using the tub title, or the chassis title?

I thought about doing that i found someone who had one there is a lot of cutting and relocating your gas tank ends up in your back seat or you can buy a fuel cell or stretch the sammi body ;Doh well heres te pic

Isn't a Sidekick wider than a sammy????? At least the axle width is bigger I thought?

And yes, the Sammy is narrower by a few inches, but with fenderflares I could have just as much tire sticking out as I do now ;)

Body mounts - can you adapt the Sami floor like you would a flat bed to the back of a pickup frame? Probably the easiest way of doing things.
For what a Sami looks like inside, check out Ebay, lots of people take pics of the interior when listing their Sami on there.
Titling, depends on what state you are in. For example, I have the POS CJ6 that needs a totally new body. Nothing left. However, it is insured and tagged for the streets of KS. (No vehicle inspection, just VIN.) When the state came to inspect the VIN, I questioned about getting a different body. All I have to do is keep the original body for inspection, after I replace it. The state will provide paperwork to 'transfer' the VIN of the CJ6 to whatever body I throw on it.
Question: if you are looking for a conv't, why not chop up your hardtop? Go to a canvas shop (boat preferred as they are usually cheaper), and get an idea if you can get it covered. Then chop it and add a roll cage. Your body shape shouldn't be too bad as along as the mounts are intact. Who really cares about the external sheetmetal? Take a look at Kerry's 91. No rear top, no doors, no rear seat, etc.

I have thought about chopping up my body... considering I have an 89 parts Tracker that's a softtop. Unfortunately I have no access to a MIG welder. :-/
This'll also be my daily driver for a while, and looks matter to me for some reason... plus I've been wanting to make a unique vehicle for some time. ;)
I guess I'll hit Ebay and check out some interior shots... or I could just remember to take a peek inside my friend's Samurai at school tomorrow ;D
