I bought my first sami about a month ago and have been finishing the build that the previous owner started. My problem lies in the carb. It was disassembled when I got it, and I literally have no experience with carbs. I need to find out where all of the linkage and springs sit on the sidde of the throttle cable. I've spent hours scouring the internet for diagrams, and my book is absolutely useless. Can I get some help? Pics? Encouragement? Anything? I wouls really appreciate it.

I would try to find a running Sami with a stock carb! Take some pics & go from there!
If you don't have to pass a smog test & have some extra $, this would be the perfect time for a Weber!!

Perhaps a jiffy (rebuild) kit. That would have info in it.
What's the carb model number?

The best place to start is with an '88 Factory Service manual.
You can find one by doing a search for factory service manual (FSM) at Ack's FAQ (see link in signature, below).
There is a pretty good section on the carb there.
Also, do a search for vacuum to find a page describing where the vacuum lines go.
Many of us have ditched the computerized Hitachi for the simpler Weber 32/36 DGAx or Zuks Offroad MySide Harley Davidson conversion kit. Both work very well (i'm leaning towards the MYSide even though I already have a Weber...)
Once you have read through the carb rebuild section of the FSM, you may want to do research on these two aftermarket carb replacements.
I hope that this helps!

I want to go to a weber carb as soon as possible, but I do unfortunately need to smog it. I'm looking for a running or not sami to take a look at, but I'm a pretty remote area that isn't too keen on non-american vehicles. I doubt it will be too much longer before I find one though. I did get a rebuilt kit from auto zone, and it was complete and fits, but the diagrams were of no use ( they didn't even show the linkage in the breakdown). I'll check the service manual out though, I found one already, but it was in russian and a completely different carb. I need to find someone who can rent me one off of their sami so I can just get it smogged and move on. Thanks for the advice guys!

You don't need to go buy a Factory Service Manual unless you just want to have one on hand. Click on Acks Facs in his signature. It is a clicakble link that will take you to the Factory Service Manual information.

If I had'nt thrown my complete Hitachi in a dumpster, I would have sent it to you for postage!
Maybe someone has one laying around?

Have you got a link for that? I have an Aisin carb to rebuild.

it was through ack's facts. I just looked up carb in the search box and found it.
