Title: What to do w/ 95' Tracker 5 Speed Transmission?
Post by: mbruce on June 19, 2011, 09:11:24 AM
Anything I can do with a 95' 5 speed Tracker transmission in my 90' Samurai?

I don't live in Tracker or Samurai country and no one wants my left-over parts....  I can take them to the car yards but donating will be my last option.

I can post on the classifieds section but y'all are West Coast folks...shipping won't be cheap.

Thanks!

The gear ratios are practically the same in samurai and trackick trannys....so no real benefit to swapping it for that reason.
If it is a 4wd tranny, you could put the tracker tranny and tcase in and do a "kicker 3" setup.  Note, that there are a lot of mods to the tcase and tranny tunnel that would have to be done, to do this.
Or you could remove the tcase from the tracker tranny and install the tranny that way (still have to do tunnel mods, as well as intermediate shaft mods).
If it is a 2wd tranny, you could install it.  But again, you would have to mod the tranny tunnel and intermediate shaft.

There really isn't any benefit for you to use the tracker tranny....unless you are needing lower gearing (by using both the tracker tcase and the samurai tcase).

well that doesn't sound fun and it's a 2wd tranny...I'll leave it on the vehicle!

Yeah, no real benefit for using the 2wd tranny, since you already have the tranny adapter and everything.
The trackick tranny does seem to be a little stronger tranny than the samurai one.  And you can use a trackick flywheel and clutch, if you use a trackick tranny.  The trackick clutch is bigger than the samurai one, so it holds a little better.  But again, there are a lot of mods that have to be done, in order to use the trackick tranny...so probably not worth the hassle in your situation.
