Title: Front axle out - safe to drive?
Post by: 3stagevtec on June 21, 2011, 08:10:43 AM
Can I safely drive my GV with one of the front axles out? I damaged my front differential and don't have access to other means of transport for today.. The front differential is already taken down.

Is it safe for the vehicle to drive with one of the axles out and the other tied to the vehicle?

Thanks

That's the only part that worries me.  I'm guessing you mean it's been pulled from the hub?  If so, you're probably cool short-term.

Yeah, it's the right axle. The thing is stuck inside the front diff and refuses to pop out. I tried pry bars, hammering it, cursing at it etc, but nothing worked..

Will have to get a machine shop to extract it. I'm just worried about the bearing getting damaged..

If I recall correctly you have manual free wheel hubs fitted - if that is so, just unlock them and you're good to go

I have the right side front axle and manual hub off.. (I can reinstall the manual hub to prevent dirt from entering)
