Title: 1.3 Carb to 16v is looking like a possibility
Post by: zuki1018 on June 23, 2011, 12:11:53 PM
After my custom bumpers and 8k wench... my rig cannot keep up with traffic less i am at 3800RPM in 4th gear.

Today i found a 1.6 16v with 186k miles in the local yard.  $200.00 with the harness.  My only delima is there is no way to tell if the motor is in good shape.  Its super clean and only missing radiator and dizzy.  Actually the truck is in pretty good shape all around.

How feasable is it to have this a/c system up and running in my 87 sami with this swap?  That would be worth 200 clams alone here in Florida!

Seeing how the Samurai never came with A/C (as far as I know) you
will have to fabricate an evaporator to fit into the dash of your trucklet

Now for the 16V, do it, it will totally transform your truck

for that price I would grab it up and roll the dice. maybe a rebuild if that fits your budget/ability.

I am pretty sure ours had a/c.  It has the controls, wiring, and other signs that it once existed.  I read it was optional on the sami.  Most of the components should be compatible right?

Ya, if it's equipped go for it, I know it was offered on my 89'  Kick, but I
declined the offer because it was a convertable.

Your late model must of been optioned for it, so you have one of the few

Some samurais had AC.
From what I have heard, it was always a dealer add-on though.  And from the way the package tray has to be modified (cut) for the evaporator assembly, I would say that could be a true statement.  Otherwise, if it would have been a "factory" option, I would have thought suzuki would have either made the evaporator to fit without modifying the package tray, or they would have made a custom package tray.
I would guess that the trackick evaporator, condensor, controls and such won't fit right into a samurai without modding stuff.  I would almost bet the condensor won't even fit in a samurai (too wide).  But I haven't ever measured or even really looked into trying to swap trackick AC over to a samurai, so I am just going off what I have seen with the AC systems of both vehicles.

sounds right to me. I am guessing th evap. Are sized to the compressor so I could not use the sami evap with the tracker comp.

Sounds like it may not be worth the hassle. I bet the ac/evap lines are diff sizes also. Sux someone removed it to start with.

It could have been removed for a couple of reasons...
it may have stopped working and they removed it just to get rid of some of the clutter.
it may have been removed to sell the AC system.
it may have been removed for who knows why.

From what I have heard, when the AC is "on" in a samurai, it really sucks the power from the engine.  And since the 1.3 isn't exactly overpowering anyway...
