Post by: Zuki-Girl on June 25, 2011, 01:54:35 PM
Anyone know if they make a shorty header to replace stock exhaust manifold? Third one has cracked at number tube, tired of getting the junkyard crap .

I never seen a short one.  I have a thorley on my 8v.  I assume yours is a 16v.  they make a header that replaces the manifold and down pipe.  every manifold I have ever seen cracks.  not sure why either.  mabye the material its made of isnt good quality.  but a header should solve that problem.  I have seen some of the vendors sell them.  I got mine from summit.

calmini makes a short 16V header.  I had one on my 92 16V...until it rusted/corroded between where all the tubes come together. ::)

thorley header or one of my used exhaust manifolds. if you have gone throught three there is a issue that is causing it. the new header and or manifold will have the same issue.

if you would like additional assistance email me, i will post ideas if you need assistance...

Even alot I've seen in the u-pull yards have the same issue in the same spot. I'm thinking a design flaw in the manifold.

me too.  I put a new manifold on and it cracked in 2 months on cyl 1.  i welded a bung in down pipe and checked with a wideband if it was getting lean and cracking.  no lean.  so installed thorley header, no problem for months now.  I put header on in november and no leaks or cracks now.  plus it was jet hot coated.

nomater whos header you get if it is not coated take it to a ceramic coater and get it done, it will last a lot longer and is worth the money
