Title: Calmini rear shock replacement
Post by: entities on June 29, 2011, 02:46:40 PM
So last weekend I totally destroyed my rear Calmini shocks.  I broke the rear 3rd axle mount so the axle was twisting around, to get it back to pavement and save big $$$ on a tow we pulled the driveshaft, strapped the rear dif to the rear bumper to keep the rear axle from rotating all the way forward, and well I relied on the rear shocks to keep the axle from rotating all the way back...  Needless to say they were bent and dinged to heck!!!  But it allowed my buddies to tow me back to civilization and then get a tow through insurance!

Eagle Rock with my Suzuki Sidekick, broke my rear 3rd link at the end. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGC9XuKF930#ws)

So my question is, what is a good rear shock replacement for the Calminis?  I had a set of DT8000s from LowRangeOffroad laying around that I've installed for the time being, but they are an inch shorter than the Calminis, I'm thinking this will limit my downtravel a bit and I may where them out faster as they'll likely be maxed out more.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Chad

Do you mean the shocks or the trailing arms?

The trailing arms are fine, just the shocks.  I've put in some replacement shocks I had lying around, they just aren't as long as the Calminis.

Show some pics of what broke, the 3rd link.  I'm really curious to see that.  Must have had some serious force on it.

Don't have any pics of it broken, but here's how I fixed it!

Also, to be fair to the Calmini rear mount, one of my threads was pretty stripped out...

I have a pair of nearly new Calmini rear shocks.  The cylinders have a few dings from shipping but they work fine.  $50 ?? +shipping

So how/where did the mount break?

skitime, sending PM.

The rear mount broke at 2 of the tabs (bolts and tabs still attached to axle), one stripped the top off the bolt and left it in the axle mount and the 4th was no where to be seen, must've worked it's way out.
