Title: Transmission Leak
Post by: johnmckinley on July 05, 2011, 04:59:36 AM
OK, I was basking in the glow of success at stopping my Auto Trans leak in my '93 Tracker when I got a surprise. I had replaced the old cork gasket with RTV and everything seemed dry and happy after a test drive.  BUT, to my surprise, after the damn thing sits for about three days it dumps approx. a cup full of ATF apparently all at once.  Looks like it comes from the passenger side, up around the kickdown valve or the vacuum modulator. Nothing from the pan gasket stuff. My guess is the torque converter slowly drains down over a period of days and as the pan fills, the stuff escapes around the Kickdown valve O-Ring. Anyone have any good ideas?

Had one that did the same, it was the dipstick tube joint.

Dipstick tube sounds like a real possibility.  Just crawled under there and it is wet where the tube enters the transmission.  Problem is, how did you fix it?  I can only just get my hand in there.  Would hate to have to pull the transmission to get to it.
