Title: Hi nebie here!
Post by: blacktrack on May 19, 2004, 01:28:51 PM
Hi everyone. Great site. Been researching since sat. Glad to be a part.  My first zuk was an 89 zuk. It was rusted almost in half and I fell in love. They will go anywhere!!! Well now I have a 97 tracker. Almost ready to put some money in. Can't afford 3" susp. so I thought of 3" body, and sky coil spacers few questions. Will I need  shocks, struts? Will I have to do anything besides get alignment?  I DO NOT WANT TO TRIM, if possible ha,ha  I want 30x9.5x15 mtr's, Good size choice? What offset wheel would be best? Thanks for everyones help, again this site rocks!!

Swamper Radials are a good long life tire
and still work very well in mud

These little rigs barely wear tires at all. My sister ran her radial swampers over 100,000 miles. Yep they were pretty bald, but you could still make out a pattern! I buy new tires every fall whether I need em or not. I drive about 40,000 a year. I have never got a set worn past half tread. Ive had a good history with the radial swampers and I highly recomend them to anyone looking to build a streetable wheeler.

Mike

BTW I do realize Im running the Goodyear Mtrs but thats only cause 35inch swampers are just too heavy for my little motor to pull down the freeway. In the smaller sizes its not noticable.

I ran a set of 30 x 11.50 Thornbirds for about 12,000 miles without hardly any wear (except gouges from the rocks). I had them at 17 psi on the street and about 9 psi on the trail. I went with Thornbirds because they are fiberglass belted and I commuted about 55 miles a day. They are a good compromise between a radial and a bias-ply tire. I've heard mixed opinions on them though, they are quite heavy, but wider than comparable height tires. I liked them better than my BFG Mud Terrains (33x12.50) or current Wild Countrys (33x12.50). I'm not sure how well they would fit on a Track/Kick. They worked great for me in mud, rocks, sand, dirt, and snow. I even won the 1997 AITC on them.

Welcome BlackTrack,
You should be able to run the 30's with the setup your wanting to do. I ran 29X10.50 Thornbirds for years when I only had a Calmini 2" suspension lift. The lugs would barely rub in the rear at full compression and factory bump stop location, and in the front at full turn and compression with no steering stop adjustment. Both rubs could of easily been fixed but it was so minimal that I never messed with it.

Welcome.  I've been out for a while, but thought I'd chime in.  I run 30X9.5s with only the 1" coil spacers.  The Dunlop Mud Rovers rub during tight turns, but it's not enough to cause me to spend time or money under the truck yet...
