I have an '87 with stock running gear. I recently rebuilt the trans with new bearings and syncros. When I shift into 5th going down the road, if you apply any power it pops out of gear. All the gears looked good and it shifts smooth. I didn't disassemble the shift tower or fork assembly. Also I don't know if it did before as it was in the back seat of the sami when purchased.. any help would be helpful!!
Thanks
Kenny

Check an FSM or Ack's for pics and/or service procedure as it sounds like the "Shifter Rail (Rod) De-dent Ball" is missing, or the spring behind it is broke to hold it in gear.

I'd say you either didn't get it put back together correctly, or there is some wear on something inside the tranny, that is making it pop out of gear.

Sky,
That's not real helpful ??? Kinda figured that.
But I like where Capt going....going to do a clutch soon, maybe I'll pull it apart and see about replacing the spring behind the detent ball.

You need to make all of the syncro gears are aligned and meshed properly and you should be good to go

Zak,
Could you expand on this a little more? I didn't realize they could be aligned other than putting the coned ends together. Since they rotate individially I am not sure what you mean?

As long as the coned ends are together then you should be ready to rock and roll!! Thats akward and the coned ends are actually what align em together to hold it in gear when rolling down the street.
