Title: Rear winch on GV

I don't know how long or well this will hold up as long as it stays dry but I took a $200 quad winch and mounted it to a class III hitch for something different. I still need to paint or powder coat the shackle mounts and where they welded spacers to the top to lower hitch half an inch.  I think the spare tire will rip from door before winch breaks free.

What's the rating on that lil guy?

You can use a snatch block and do a double line pull to increase pulling power for sticky situations..

In Europe, we have towing hitches with a ball on the tug, and I have a winch which attaches to a plate with a hole and an elongated slot, which just goes over the ball.  With no strain on the winch, it hangs down, and when the strain comes on, it rises up in line with the towline.  When not in use, it lives in the trunk.   If you have a fridge socket in the trunk, you plug in there for power. Quite neat, and no installation work required.

What sort of amp rating are you using - a Warn 6000# winch pulls over 400A at full load - fridge maybe 10A.

Maybe I was being fanciful about the fridge socket - I actually ran cabling from the battery to a socket in the trunk of my X-90.  The documentation doesn't state the current loading, but I included a 30A fuse, and it hasn't blown.

The winch is rated at 2000 lb static pull, so it's no heavy weight performer, but it is very geared down, so quite effective.
