I am evaluating the need to rebuild my 1.3L 8V (1988). What is normal compression for a stock motor?
-
I'm guessing that's a Sammy engine? Not real sure about the 8 Valve 1.3 but a healthy 16V 1.6 is good between 185 and 190 according to the FSM. Try a search or Acks' Facs.

For a 1.3, anything above 170 is good - they'll run surprisingly well with a lot less though.

Mine was running with 90 before I tore it down to rebuild. It smoked really bad and was super weak but it ran great at a idle lol. Like has already been stated the compression is supposed to be above 170. Anything less than 140 desperately needs to be rebuilt. You might could get by with just replacing rings but if I am going to go that far into the motor, and if the rings are worn that bad, then I would rebuild the motor instead of just hoping the rings fix it.

You cannot do rings without doing the head if it's that worn out.
