alright guys im kind of new to this stuff and im in need of some help..i just recently bought a samurai off of my buddy and it didnt have a motor so i shopped around and found a 1.6l tracker motor with trans and tcase. everything is bolted up and the motor is mounted but my trouble is with wiring. im only trying to get it to start up and run. it's gonna be specifically for off-roading so i'm not looking for perfect. the motor came with a distributor and alternator and i was wondering if my samurai coil will be suffifient? would it be easier to swap the throttle body and get a carb? i'm looking for some words of wisdom here and any help is much appreciated

You need the Track/Kick computer and wiring harness to use the EFI
of the 1.6, or get a Samurai intake manifold and carb instead, you will
need an electric fuel pump, as the 1.6 head never was outfitted to run
a mechanical fuel pump
The coil will work fine

Alright thanks a lot, I think im just going to get the carb because it will be better off in the long run because I don't want to have to deal with all of the codes and extra wiring. Im just going for a basic system. This is my first time working on a vehicle this much. I did a spoa on it and and built my own lift. I just copied the calimini spring shackles and used the stock springs. I've done a lot of other stuff to it also and ill get some pics of it today.

Is your 1.6 a 8 valve or 16 valve samurai intake will not bolt up to a 16v
to tell the difference on a 8v or 16v is on 8v spark plugs go in the side of the head on a 16v the spark plugs go threw the valve cover

Its an 8v......

i just bought a carb for it today and i was just wondering if i still need the heater plate that was there for the throttle body? and i also bought an aftermarket triple gauge kit and i was wondering where would be the best place to put the sensor for the temp gauge? i found the stock one but the aftermarket socket is too big and would drilling it out work?

If you live in a cold climate you should keep it otherwise, leave it out

IF the stock location can be drilled & tapped to take the new sensor, that would be the best location - some folks put it in a sleeve in the radiator top hose, the disadvantage there is that it does not show the coolant temperature until the thermostat opens, and if the thermostat fails closed, the engine can overheat with no indication of a problem on the gauge.
