Title: How much would you pay??
Post by: oak_raid on July 28, 2011, 08:08:34 PM
How much would you expect to pay a shop to completely rebuild a stock Hitachi 1.3l sammy carb?  Just want to make sure I'm not gettin hosed.  I was quoted $441.

Its not a job I am willing to try myself.  It HAS to be done right, and quickly.

Can't you buy a re-built for less than that?

$441? that's insane! I do them for 439. :P

you should be able to get a webber for less.

and if you need it quick and wont do it.....441 and be done! pricey but solves the problem ;)

Webers arent smog legal here in CA, and dont really want the hassle of switching it for smog every year.  If you do seriously do it for 439, then ok I guess i not gettin hosed too bad lol.

As for buying a rebuilt for less.......I did just that last year.  Bought a 'remanufactured' carb for $149.  It lasted all of 1 year and went to complete crap.  This is the one I am having rebuilt now (by a different company of course).  In just 12 months, the throttle body bushing went bad (and they SWEAR they changed it!), idle solenoid went bad, the choke is stuck open, and they said there is scaling inside it from past water damage.  I guess you get what you pay for in a $149 remanufacture

I was joking about 439. but if your in a hurry the shop will usually shake you down! it seems a bit steep too me to. I know many times I have spent more money trying to save a buck insted of "just sucking it up" and paying the premium. these days a guy can spend a 100 bux just shopping around.

so.....suck it up and get it done or wait and wait (maybe some hope&luck) you will get something cheaper.
