Title: Small Switch
Post by: Sundance58301 on August 01, 2011, 05:19:22 PM
On my recently acquire '92 Sidekick (4dr, 16v) I was
driving along when I noticed something rubbing on my left
shin............ looking down I saw a small switch with 2 wires
running to it.

It's a black switch box that is about an inch long and 3/8 inch wide.

Any ideas??? I can try to post a pic,

Thanks

Wow, most people have to search with a flashlight to find theirs, you just got lucky!  Now attach it someplace where it's easy to get to.
If you can get all the OEM components for the cruise system cheaper than an after market one, by all means go for it. I'm assuming your buying used? I got an aftermarket Rostra unit for my 95 kick that works pretty well, but nothing's better than factory.

LOL...... Not even knowing what it was I screwed it to the lower dash.
So....... I can shut off the check engine light with it?? Cool.

Yes used............ But I don't know all the components I would need....
So far for the column switch, control module, and underhood box with
with cables I'm at $120....... Rostra runs over $200 last I checked.

Switch has no effect on the "check engine" light.
Bummer.

Well then it could be some sort of dealer installed anti theft crap

The CEL reset switch should have 3 wires on it, an "L" shaped bracket and the switch is a small slide switch.
The CEL reset switch won't turn the CEL off if there is a "real" error code.  It is just used to reset the CEL if it comes on because the odometer reached a specific mileage interval.

Ahhh.......... I will double check on the number of wires. But
your description of the switch is spot on.

Waiting for my Chiltons........

Oh, and to turn off the CEL using the switch (if the CEL is lit because of a mileage interval), just flip the switch to the opposite position.  Do NOT flip it, then fiip it back....that won't turn the CEL off.
