Title: MonstaLiner in my 98' Sidekick
Post by: talonxracer on August 04, 2011, 01:08:51 PM
Well after a very close inspection of the new to me 98' Sidekick, I found some corrosion on the floor panels under the asphalt sound deadening material, It all came up rather easily.

The interior is completely cleaned, patched, ChassisSaverd and prepped for the Monstaliner. I am not putting any carpet back in, again part of the cause for the corrosion!

I have used the Monstaliner on several project vehicles, it is an excellent trunk liner for cars, here is the black in my Honda Civic spare tire well,

The Monstaliner is now available in tintable colors, and a shit load too! http://monstaliner.com/forms/monstaliner_colors.htm (http://monstaliner.com/forms/monstaliner_colors.htm)  I ordered the medium Quartz gray color, it almost matchs the original carpet color!

The Monstaliner should be here tomorrow AM and hopefully it will be fully in by tomorrow night along with some pictures to show the process!

Well the UPS guy came and went without leaving any Monstaliner, what a bummer for the weekend, but probably for the best as there are thunderstorms called for this afternoon and thru the weekeend.

I removed the shifter boots and E-brake so the entire tunnel will be coated.
Here it is all wiped down and sanitized with MEK,

i'm impressed with the prep job.
i've been getting rid of carpet(wish i'd done it "in the beginning) and have trouble with some real gummy glue stuff that held the mat down.
monstaliner looks/sounds like good stuff.

Get a can of xylene and a heavy duty scraper and go at it, there is no real replacement for elbow power...LOL...unfortunately!

I envy your extremely clean kick except for the post 95 evilness ;)
Do yourself a favor and poke around underneath BEFORE you bed line your interior. If you have any rust in the floorboards it's going to show up underneath along the supports. It would be a shame to seal up the interior only to find out several years down the road that the rust has spread underneath the bed liner.

I'll be watching this thread since I plan on sealing up my interior with bed liner as well.

Yeah the OBDII stuff is a pain, but it can be faked out, my Honda could pass the NY state mandated OBDII inspection without the engine running or even installed!!!

I already spent time neutralizing/removing the corrosion damage on the bottomside when I did the Altered Ego suspension lift and the inside of the tub during the cleanup/sealing process with ChassisSaver.

The first coat,

It is a little lighter than I had expected, but that isnt a bad thing at all!

This is the 4th project to get Monstaliner, I no longer mask off bolt holes or even the bolts, remove them and coat right away without the masking or going over bolt heads the coating has a far better appearance when completed. After the stuff cures just run a tap in and put in the bolts, I will be getting some new SS bolts for the interior.

With the tintable monstaliner you will need to get a 2 gallon paint bucket to mix the monstaliner, with all the components combined there is more than 1 gallon, use the leftover in the bucket to cut in the corners. The 1.125 gallons is more than enough to do the entire tub interior.

That is a pretty smooth finish.  Now is it once everything hardens up?  With the Herculiner we have found the dirt gets in it and just stays there, due to the ruff finish.

The surface is nice and hard when it fully cures and because there is no crumbled rubber in it, the texture does not retain debris and hoses/washs out easily.

I started to reinstall the interior, the lighter than expected gray is actually far better IMHO, looks very nice!

Depending on what you are trying to slide on the wet(from water) Monstaliner, rubber soled sneakers do not slide very well.

That looks really good. Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

Keep us updated on how well this holds up, especially if you run top off a lot or use the "bed" for a lot of hauling.

I really like the color. It sure beats the plain old black bed liner.

Thank you!

I like the lighter color far better than the old gloss black only of the monstaliner I have used for interiors in the past.

Looks good.  I would like to delete the carpet some day.  Did you have any rusted out spots or just surface rust?

I had a few spots that required the metal/rust to be excised and new metal welded in, and a new drivers side front seat mount.
