Title: Taking body off frame - How Hard ?
Post by: sohip on August 11, 2011, 11:31:08 AM
I need to fix some rust on the frame (rear, around tank area and crossmember "pipe"). (2 door 5 speed, convertible)

How hard is it to take the body off the frame .  Besides the bolts that hold thinks together, throttle cable, shifter boot.

Is it pretty involved for the novice.  I want to get it up 12" or so ...

Thanks for any help.

fuel lines, ebrake cable, clutch cable, t-case boot, speedometer, gas tank filler tube and vent tube, brake lines(hard(back)flex-line(front)), axle vent tubes, radiator, power steering pump.
also include any accessorys like a/c or cruise control.
in my opinion, i wouldnt lift the entire body , but loosten all the body bolts, any rear brake lines, the gas filler and just jack the back up watching carefully the fuel lines under the battery area. you should be able to get 6" or 8", but 12 is stretching it.

Holy, smart guy !

Thanks ,  I think 6" shoud be lots I just need to get a good look in there and with the tank/bumper out should be good enough.  forgot about the Fuel lines and radiator,  I cant commit that much.  Ill have a look and see if I just pull the pin or carry on with the work.

The radiator is mounted to the frame, so no need to mess with that,
but if you have A/C the lines might run through the body.

Keep in mind, the body, tho small, is the major weight in these little
trucks, and you need to make sure to support it well, and make sure
it doesn't fall on you while you are poking around under it
