Hello everyone I just bought a 1990 Tracker.
I was looking for a Samurai but couldn't find
one for a reasonable price in the Denver CO
area. I have been 4wheeling for many years
in my Land Cruisers. I have wheeled with Samurais
and know that they are very capable vehicles.
I needed something light to tow behind my
older motorhome. So I bought the Tracker.
I've been reading this BB for a few days and finally
got signed up to post.
I'm wondering what kind of gas milage should I be getting?
Driving around town, back and forth to work I'm getting
about 22 MPG. Is this about right? I thought it should do
a little better.
I'm already looking at modifying the Tracker. Plan on
mild lift, lower gears and lockers. Don't want to get too
crazy with it, yet!

Welcome aboard ;D I average 20 mpg on the hiway with all my goodies on. When it was stock I got around 25mpg around town (I live really close to work ;D) Probly better on the freeway.

Well, Samwise, does it have the 8-valve, or 16-valve engine?  On my 2-door, I only got 24 MPG stock, which I thought was strange, because all 4 of my 4-doors got 28 to 32 MPG.  Now that it's "built", I still get 20 mpg.
And that's at 9,000 feet (yes, it DOES make a difference).
Here's the Gnewt on the Whaletail - an obstacle on Chinaman's Gulch trail, near Buena Vista, CO.

Thanks everyone for the info. Mine is a 2 door 8 valve.
I haven't really had it out on the highway yet. I've run it
up 285 and I-70 out of Denver just to see how it pulled the
hills. It does OK, exceptable.
Nice looking rig you got there. What size tires do you have?
I ran Chinaman last Sunday.
I was in my Land Cruiser though. I was thinking if I was
in the Tracker I could turn on the AC! Don't think my Tracker
is ready for that trail yet!

At about 90% highway and 10% town, I get between 22 and 24 with my 3-speed automatic. I think 5 speeds are supposed to get 4 or 5 more MPG than that.
Oh, and Welcome!

My tracker is my daily commuter. I drive daily 130 Miles to and from work (65 miles each way) 98% highway. It is a 1994 2WD, 5 speed 8v.
I get 25-29MPG.
