so im debating swapping in a bigger engine. something with more power. my thoughts were either go big or go home, oooooorrrrrr do a 4.3 v6 and not have to sweat the clearance and thought process to work through a bigger motor.
Please throw me some ideas and maybe some advice for that matter
Thanks, Earl

Advice; don't do it! Looks good on paper, usually renders a (was) good rig junk to drive and wheel. This was a dream long ago for me until I was around some v6/v8 samurais. They were the laughing stock.
Think lighter weight and higher tech. :)

I'd suggest finding your local wheeling club and see if there are other Sammies in your area, then see if anyone has the 1.6 8v or 16v swap local and ask them to take you for a drive, or let you drive it yourself. Find out how capable the 1.6 is before you rule it out. Keeping that little rig light and balanced is the key to its trail abilities... disrupt that and you will be chasing your tail trying to make your V-swap work like you want it to...

Thanks a lot guys. The more and more u think about it I would like to do a 1.6 or 16v swap but not sure how to go about that.
-
MUCH easier than the 4.3 or V8 swap you have in mind.
This an other forums have all the info you need for the 1.6 swap, it is by far the most common and well documented of the swaps I would think. Start with searching, there are many how-to's, even as far as the complete rebuild of the donor 1.6. Ask me how I know, I'm in the middle of this swap now...

Western Oregon. I got a 1.8 turbo from a TT roadster in my sidekick, I have a couple more of these motors awaiting a home. ;)

what did you mate the motor with and how hard is it to rewire the truck with the new motor?
-
I used a acme adapter designed for the diesel. (that's what I had before) slightly modified. its all in the thread. I don't know why the link doesn't go directly to it. ???
wiring was a 30 minute job with a propper aftermarket standalone computer. Take a few minutes and go through the thread. its not a cheap swap nor is it the spendyest out there. it is a great engine though with more than you could ever imagine available in the aftermarket.
