ok so as u know i have a loud stereo which means i normally dont hear anything but the stereo..well for the past few days the tracker had felt kinda weird when in anything past 3rd gear..it felt animic
so yesturday i muted the stereo and imidiatly heard what i thought to be an exh. leak!..so i get out to look it over hear it is coming from the spark plugs!!!!
i push down on the 3rd plug and feel it pulsing same for the #1 plug
so i went to kragen bought the spark plug changer...the #1 plug was 7 turns losse the #3 plug was all the way out...how the hell does this happen??? no one has ever told me i had to check the damn spark plugs

Happened to a friend of mines Miata.
Make sure to torque them to factory specs.
Only with a cold engine.
The aluminum head and steel plugs don't get along very well when the head is hot.

Got to be careful on those plugs in an aluminum head. I had a 82 Dodge Omni Charger 2.2 back in my college day and blew a plug out of the head at the PA Turnpike toll house. It stripped the beginning threads and I had to spend a day near Pittsburgh to get a garage to tap the threads back. There is a torque setting for those plugs. If 2 were loose, might as well replace them with new ones (~$1.50 or less each). Cheap insurance. Then might as well do a complete tune up. Good luck.
-
yah i was thinking about changing them again since i dont know for sue how many days it was like that
-
well just took the plugs out...the one that was just hanging there by the wire looks kinda bad...probably still works but looks kinda bad it is also those single tip heads..so im thinking replace all the plugs but should i replace the wires also? 91 about 82k miles on the odo so about 72 on the engine ( was towed)
-
I would replace it all!
Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, PCV valve, air filter, fuel filter, adjust the valves, flush and refill the antifreeze, and maybe a timing belt.
Oh and anything else that my need replacing or servicing at this time. I am sure I forgot something!! ;D
Preventative maintainance will make your Zuk or any car last a lot longer.
Just a thought.

where is the fuel filter?? that might need to be changed
i change the air filter with the oil filter so it gets changed pretty often..also how hard is it to change the timing belt since this isnt hte first time i have been told it should be changed
-
The fuel filter is in the back on the passanger side just above the rear axle. Very easy to replace.
They timing belt isn't hard to replace just very labor intensive. You have to pay close attention to detail if you choose to do it on your own.

well any and all work i do will be done myself since my money has to go into the pigy bank for the new wheels =) lol

I would replace it all!
...8-valve engine...
-

When changing out the fuel filter, there will be gas ready to fall directly into your eyes, no matter where you are, open sores on your fingers will stingl, you'll get that fantastic taste in the mouth, your nose will sinder like it was sniffing straight sulfur, etc. To add, if it's a FI, the system may be under pressure. Nevermind the dirt you through up there during the off-roading.
Advise you to bleed the pressure if it's injected. There should be a schrader valve up near the intake manifold along the fuel line system. Remove the cap, wrap a towel around it, and push the nipple in to bleed the pressure with a screwdriver point. Then remove the filter, keep a towel over you mouth and nose, have protective glasses on, get a small cup if you want to try to catch some gas coming from the rubber lines (or use an other towel as it won't be much). Then replace it. Simple enough.
-
simple!....so how do i put pressure BACK into it since it is that TPI or whatever injection
-
The electric fuel pump will represureize the system.
Also, check for leaks when you are finished.

plugs tend to work there way out of heads after they have been over torqued once and then replaced and torqued properly.
-
could it have anyhting to do with the subs?? i mean i knew they would rattle things losse but spark plugs?? i can rattle houses from about a block away...but i cant imagine spark plugs being rattled losse since the engine is in its own vibration
-
How are the plug boots on the wires? Mine are pretty snug, I can't imagine the plug spinning in the boots. New wires may help that.
I'm curious, does anyone (else) use anti-seize on their plug threads?
-
the 2 boots that the plags came losse in are a swift fart from coming off..meaning it takes little or no force to pull them off...is that bad?
-

Yep... anti-seize or oil on the threads.
I hope the threads in the head are still in good shape. I've seen mechanics remove spark plugs when the engine was still warm/hot. (Bad news, that.)
