Yep, Wharton State Forest is part of the Pinelands area, combined with Brenden Byrne, and Bass River state forests it totals over 1,000,000 (one million) acres in central and south Jersey. A lot of the trails are just two tracks with out much challenge, except for deep sand, sometimes deep water, fallen trees to climb over and tight twisty stuff between the trees, but it's quite scenic, and there are some hidden areas like this one that you can play in. You can also cover a lot of ground in a day and see some pretty cool things like abondoned old villages and forge sites. Back in the 1800's the area was big into iron ore smelting and and iron fabrication, many of the trails today were once actual wagon roads from place to place. There are many streams and lakes and the whole area is really quite a treasure for being in the most densely populated state in the US. OK, enough of the history narrative.
The Pine barrrens are not much of a challenge to those who are into hard core rock crawling, but the trails are fun, fast and mostly easy on equipment. It still is possible to break stuff though, just ask Bob, who rolled his Sammy when I took him out to this hill! And going into an untested water hole can be a real eye opener too.
The Turbo Tracker does make it look easy, mostly because the 4.25 xfer case gears and front and rear lockers allow it to go slow and easy up just about anything. Driver is just along for the ride :laugh: The Rubicon tried to follow me up, lack of ground clearence stopped him dead. That'll teach that jeeper to follow a ZUK :laugh:
A couple years back I tried to organize a day ride for some of the Zuk folks within driving distance, but it didn't really take off. Just a couple showed. The fall here is a paticularly nice time for a day's ride and camping is really nice too. I know Ecoast keeps sayin' he wants to come down for a ride, maybe we can get together this fall.

I had Rita all set to meet you and the wife up in Stockton this weekend but I think the weather is not going to be paticularly nice for it. :laugh:
I'll give you a ring, my buddy with the FJ wants to go out again too. Maybe we can get talonX to come. If you brought the camper we could set up in one of the campgrounds near there, or you guys could stay here. Can that Sammy go faster than 5mph? I suppose we could just stop and wait for the slow old guy in the Sammy to catch up. ;D

Sounds good Joel, looking forward to it, although with all this rain and hurricane stuff I' thinking we better bring floatation devices and maybe a small boat! Actually, I've found that a week or two after a big rain event the trails are actually better, washes all the washboard and horsetracks down and smoothes everything out. Maybe labor day weekend?

I should be in NJ then, so sounds good to me. Who else wants to laugh at me while my fat truck gets some more "piney pinstripes" when you guys actually fit down the trail ;D

The ability to go slow does make the climbs over rutted sections easier. I did notice that you have a LOT of ground clearance too?? It is easier to do if you know how to drive your rig, lockers on both ends do improve your odds.
Your Zuk sounds as good as it looks too. Nice vid.

I did enter one of me pulling a stuck Jeep Rubicon up that same hill. I thought that was for a vid of actually USING your warn winch. Although my Tracker does have the big red W of Warn prominently featured right up the front ;D

Thanks BRD HNTR, it does sound good doesn't it. That's that elcheapo turbo muffler. :laugh: The Rubicon had lockers in both ends too, but good ground clearance is a must. I think I've squeezed about as much ground clearance from the IFS as I safely can without breaking stuff regularly. The thing sure does surprise me with it's abilities even still. And yeah, ok, I'm not quite a newb at it anymore.

Yes, it is amazing where these things can go locked up.
My turbo mufflers don't sound bad until I step on it, then the whole area knows. I suspect that the Turbo might help with keeping your sounds muted?

Ya, Turbo mufflers were designed for turbocharged engines, low
back pressure and yes, the turbo knocks lots of sound out of the
exhaust tone, I ran for years with no muffler and it sounds like
a regular engine with a turbo muffler on it

Best thing about the muffler was it was CHEAP! :laugh: Now I gotta another issue to deal with, after only about 50k miles I got a valve guide seal starting to go, again. Just a wisp of smoke on startup, but I know it's gonna get worse eventually. I remember what a P I T A it was to do them before, I just may sell this thing before doing them again ! :laugh: I guess it would be a good time to pull and inspect the head after all the turbo use. I suppose. Or just let the damn thing smoke. ::)
